Tobey Maguire's Estranged Wife Jennifer Meyer Files For Divorce 4 Years After Separation

Tobey Maguire and estranged wife Jennifer Meyer are officially ending their marriage four years after announcing their split.

After going their separate ways in 2016, Meyer, 43, filed for divorce from the actor, 45, Wednesday and submitted the paperwork in Los Angeles, Us Weekly reported, citing court documents.

Maguire and Meyer exchanged "I do's" in September 2007 and share two children together — daughter Ruby, 13, and son Otis, 11. They confirmed their split in October 2016.

An unnamed insider told People at the time that the "Spider-Man" actor and the jewelry designer had "been living separate lives" long before announcing their separation.

"They have completely different interests and haven’t seemed to be connecting," the source said. "He’s extremely private and prefers to stay home, and she’s very social and has tons of girlfriends."

But while the two were no longer happy in their marriage, they remain great parents and love their kids, the insider added.

Another anonymous source also shared similar information to Us Weekly at the time, saying Maguire and Meyer’s split "was not sudden."

"They are committed to remaining friends for their children and wanted to make sure of that. They went back and forth on this decision but realized this is where the relationship is and they simply grew apart," the source said.

Despite their breakup, Meyer and Maguire have remained friends. In 2018, the jewelry designer told Us Weekly that they had no problem co-parenting their children as she and Maguire shared similar views when it came to raising their two kids.

"Remember that you love your kids equally more than anything in the world and that you want the best for them," she said. "And if they see parents that don’t get along or fight, then they’re going to be unhappy, and nobody wants unhappy children."

Meyer also paid tribute to Maguire on Father's Day back in June, calling him her "best friend" in her sweet post on Instagram.

"To the best baby daddy. All is can say is no matter what happens in life, to relationships etc.... choose a dad for your kids that you can count on forever," she captioned a photo of them with their two children. "This one right here is my best friend and the greatest dad to our babies. I’m sorry Tobey, I know you hate Instagram, but every once in a while I like to brag to everyone about how special you are."
