  • Tottenham is planning to give Son Heung-Min a salary raise in his contract extension
  • The club's executives are looking to close a deal with Son before the year ends
  • Jose Mourinho is confident both Tottenham and Son will soon reach an agreement

Tottenham star striker Son Heung-Min could be on the verge of signing a mega-contract with the Spurs.

After years of consistently displaying a fine form, Tottenham owner Joe Lewis has reportedly ordered the green light to give Son a “Harry Kane-style” contract.

Lewis, whom club chairman Daniel Levy calls “boss,” is the man in charge of all financial matters at the Lilywhite House and the billionaire is already finalizing the contract extension of Son, with a salary increase worth £200,000-a-week ($260,000) plus performance-related bonuses, Football Insider reported, citing unnamed sources.

International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

Son’s future in Tottenham appears to be secured as talks over his contract extension are said to be “advancing” with the Jose Mourinho’s side expecting a deal to be closed by the end of this year.

Tottenham didn’t entertain any offers for the South Korean attacker in the last transfer window and has reportedly prioritized the renewal of his deal since then.

The prolific striker is tied up with the Spurs until 2023, but due to his impressive goalscoring form, the club executives are keen on rewarding him for being Kane’s ultimate co-star.

It is said that the plan is to make Son one of the club’s “top earners” alongside Kane and Tanguy Ndombele.

Tottenham chiefs Levy and Lewis also have no plans of making Son leave for a cut-price fee like what happened to Christian Eriksen last season, the report added.

Spurs manager Mourinho is another prominent figure in Tottenham who is truly pleased with Son’s performance. In fact, the renowned coach has been looking forward to having the former Bundesliga star on his squad for a longer period of time.

According to Mourinho, everybody in Tottenham is “in love” with Son and he is confident that the player himself is also feeling the same way.

“I would love that,” Mourinho recently said of Son’s contract extension with Tottenham. “Son has three years of contract so it’s not like we’re in an extreme situation of everybody being worried.”

“It’s more that Son loves it here,” he continued. “I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for a long time. Everybody at the club is totally in love with this player and this boy and is trying also to make him feel part of the furniture.

Son has been on fire since the start of the 2020-21 English Premier League season. Thus far, the Spurs star has already bagged a total of 10 goals in 11 games.
