KEY POINTS

  • Manchester United are interested in re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Ronaldo currently is contracted with Juventus until 2022
  • He has scored 71 goals in 94 appearances for Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently at Juventus, reportedly could make a sensational return to Manchester United next summer.

Juventus would agree to negotiate if Manchester United approached them with an offer for Ronaldo, unnamed sources in Manchester, and Porto told FOX America journalist Christian Martin, who has a credible record of breaking transfer news. But, the International Business Times could not independently verify the same.

Even though Man Utd have shifted focus towards young players in recent times, Ronaldo’s dream switch back to Old Trafford still looks possible, considering Man Utd recently signed 33-year-old Edinson Cavani this summer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on a free transfer.

Ronaldo, who became a superstar at Man Utd, played for the Red Devils from 2003 to 2009. Sir Alex Ferguson signed an 18-year-old Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon, making him the iconic club’s first-ever Portuguese player. Ronaldo won three back-to-back Premier League titles with Man Utd and a Champions League title among the many trophies he won as a Red Devil.

Ahead of the 2009-10 campaign, Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid and the rest is history. He netted 450 goals in 438 matches for Los Blancos, where he won as many as four Champions League titles and two La Liga trophies among other titles. His legacy ended in Spain when he made the switch from Real Madrid to Juventus in the summer of 2018.

Despite being in the twilight years of his career, Ronaldo has been Juventus’ best since his debut season in 2018-19. The 35-year-old has struck 71 goals for Juventus in 94 competitive appearances and has led them to two straight Serie A titles.

While Ronaldo’s current deal with Juventus is due to end in 2022, he is linked with a move away next summer. Juventus signed Ronaldo for $117 million from Real Madrid, and they would not want the superstar to leave for free at the end of the 2021-22 campaign. The Serie A champions have been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and are open to letting him go and saving around $700,000-a-week in wages.
