KEY POINTS

  • Arsenal has Luka Jovic on their radar
  • Jovic could get his second lease at the Emirates Stadium
  • Jovic has areas to work on if he wants to have a regular playing time

After their pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic went up in smoke, Arsenal needs to move on and look for other candidates.

It appears the Gunners have done just that with reports from The Athletic that the team has their eyes set on Vlahovic’s Serbian teammate Luka Jovic.

In the report, Arsenal plans to get the 24-year-old striker via a loan deal.

The same report also added that Jovic’s link-up play and ability to finish is what captured the Gunners’ fancy.

However, there are risks involved in the Gunners' push for the Serbian as his defensive work rate needs a lot of work and may be something that could become a problem for Mikel Arteta and company.

Moreover, it would be best to note that the Serbian striker has not started so far in La Liga this season as he was sent out on loan in the second half of the 2020-21 season.

Although he is a player who has some areas that need to be addressed, Jovic could be a worthy investment.

Jovic showed promise when he was loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 27 goals in 47 appearances in 2018-19 and this led to him being signed permanently in 2019.

He would then be shipped to Real Madrid later that summer for a fee of £53 million ($71. 6 million).

Unfortunately, Jovic fell short in carrying over his momentum to La Liga, registering only three goals and four assists in 47 appearances.

If he does get to move to the Emirates Stadium, he could potentially resurrect his career and get the proper playing time he deserves.

He was branded as a world-class striker by ex- Frankfurt manager Adi Hutter in 2021, and a change of scenery and hooking up with the right team could unleash his full potential.
