KEY POINTS

  • Dembele's representatives will meet with the Barca management on a new deal
  • Dembele remains out due to an injury
  • Manchester United once had Dembele on their wish list

Ousmane Dembele is currently sidelined with an injury although the more pressing matter is his status with Barcelona.

The 24-year-old is in the final year of his contract, and the Blaugranas know they have to act fast to make sure he does not leave Camp Nou.

It appears that is what Barca president Joan Laporta has in mind after giving an update on Dembele’s contract situation.

“Mateu [Alemany] told me that a meeting with his representative is being organized,” Laporta said in a report from Diario Sport.

This should appease Barca fans who have been wondering when some progress on the status of Dembele would happen.

The only thing most had to rely on is that both sides appear to maintain a good relationship.

“He's told me that he really wants to return to the pitch and wear the Barcelona shirt. With the help of everyone, we're going to ensure that this player, who has great quality, gets back playing and playing often, ensure that the bad moments don't happen again,” Laporta stated.

In a previous post, it was reported how Dembele was in no rush to address his contract situation with the Catalan giants.

At that time, he was focused on the European Championships with France. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury, something that has prevented him from suiting up for Barcelona so far this season.

Dembele suffered a knee injury against Hungary at Euro 2020 this summer. The latest update on the French forward is that he will continue to miss two more months.

So far, Dembele has scored six goals to go with three assists in 30 La Liga appearances under the watch of Ronald Koeman.

It was a breakthrough on his part considering he had struggled the previous years.

Also, it would be best to note that Dembele has had a history of injuries. He has missed as many as 86 games for Barca since joining the club in 2017.

Manchester United has expressed interest in the French footballer back in March.

But with the latest update from Laporta, it appears Barca plans to keep Dembele at Camp Nou.

The length and money involved in that should be known very soon after the meeting of both parties.
