  • Donny van de Beek wants out of Manchester United
  • The Dutchman languished behind Manchester United's midfield depth
  • Van de Beek reportedly prefers Barcelona to be his next landing spot

Midfielder Donny van de Beek’s time with Manchester United may be coming to a close.

After a difficult first season with Manchester United where the Dutchman only saw 15 appearances and four starts, van de Beek is looking for a way out of Old Trafford per report of Manchester Evening News via MSN.

The young midfielder’s arrival was highly anticipated as it was believed that he could be a difference maker for the club.

Manchester United made an offer to Ajax worth £35 million ($49.2 million) but has since languished in the stands.

Having the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic on the roster, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unable to find a role for van de Beek.

La Liga's Barcelona has been looking for a midfielder to sign during this transfer window, and van de Beek has reportedly offered to join the club even if it’s via loan.

The club missed out on securing Georginio Wijnaldum’s signature as the 30-year-old midfielder decided to snub their offer and join Paris Saint-Germain on a salary of €9.5 million ($11.5 million) per season through 2024, more than double of what Barca offered.

Joining Barcelona will allow van de Beek to link back up with former Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong.

Van de Beek hopes that a transfer out of Manchester United will help him return to the player that he was prior to joining the Red Devils.

However, the Dutchman’s hopes of a move to Spain may not happen at all.

It has been reported that the Camp Nou side is looking to sign a more defensive-minded midfielder.

As of this writing, Barcelona has not yet made any explicit comments about the disgruntled van de Beek.

The Spanish team has been extremely active during this transfer window as they looked to retool for a run to the top of the La Liga standings.

Barca’s biggest acquisition so far is Sergio Aguero from Manchester City on a free transfer.

The Jadon Sancho transfer saga may not look to end any time soon for Manchester United, and recent developments with van de Beek may further add to the club’s transfer window woes.
