  • Roma is looking to deal away Smalling for financial purposes
  • Everton is only willing to get Smalling at a certain fee

Despite an injury-ravaged season, it appears Everton is ready to take a chance on Chris Smalling.

Reports have come out that the Toffees are open to adding him to the mix although there is a certain amount they are willing to pay.

The actual figures that Everton is allegedly planning to offer Roma for Smalling are unknown, Il Sussidario reported.

The 31-year-old started his tenure with Roma at £13.5 million ($18.66 million) on an initial loan.

But with his salary ballooning to £18 million ($24.97 million), it seems La Lupa is looking in another direction.

Roma is listening to offers for Smalling, someone who played sparingly last season due to injuries.

Head coach Jose Jose Mourinho is reportedly also open to selling the center-back if there are takers.

For Everton, the risk is a bit mysterious. But the catch here is that they are not ready to pay a huge amount to take in the English footballer.

The reason behind that is understandable, considering Smalling played only 13 to 16 Serie A matches.

A reason for this is due to a spate of injuries that included sprains, knee, bicep, and other muscular issues.

It would also be best to note that Everton is pursuing Smalling even with no manager at the helm.

Pundits feel that this shows the level of interest that the club has in the player. But this is on the premise that he is priced at their projected price.

But with his struggles to stay healthy, most question why Everton is willing to add the center-back to the mix and not worry about him spending more time on the sidelines.

The last time he played 16 or fewer games came during his first term at Manchester United.

The Toffees already have several center-backs in the mix, something that further raises questions on their interest in Smalling.

Battling for a spot in the first team are Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey.
