KEY POINTS

  • Leeds United has completed their acquisition of Daniel James from Manchester United
  • James was concerned about his playing time at Old Trafford
  • Manchester United is expected to make a solid run for the Premier League title this season

Manchester United made the most out of the transfer window deadline as they sell Daniel James to Leeds United.

With the summer transfer window set to close on Tuesday, August 31, the Red Devils were able to recoup some of the capital that they spent this summer.

Transfer maestro Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United has completed the sale of Daniel James to Leeds United for €28 million ($33 million) with some add-ons.

Going into the summer window, James was expected to stay at Old Trafford and he was rarely featured in any transfer rumors.

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo certainly changed things and the club could no longer guarantee James minutes or an off-the-bench role.

ESPN reports that James himself was also very much concerned with his playing time at Old Trafford due to the Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho signing.

Leeds United, longtime fans and admirers of James, was previously in pursuit of James back in 2019 before he chose to sign with Manchester United from Swansea City.

The move has not been officially announced as James will be completing his medical on the morning of August 31st.

James will have all the minutes he can handle at Leeds United and he may be in for a massive season ahead.

The club has had their eyes set on winning the English Premier League title after almost a decade of not touching the trophy.

Alongside upgrading their attack with the Sancho and Ronaldo signings, Manchester United was also able to improve their defense as they were able to secure Raphael Varane’s services from Real Madrid this summer as well.

Paul Pogba, despite transfer links with Paris Saint-Germain, looks content with staying at Manchester United throughout this season.

He has played spectacularly well this season, leading the club to an opening day win against Leeds United and a draw against Southampton the following week.

With the smoke of the transfer window starting to settle, Manchester United is one of the favorites to win the Premier League title, alongside Chelsea and Manchester City.
