  • Tottenham gets a new lease on possibly acquiring Marcus Thuram from Gladbach
  • Thuram has seen a tremendous dip in his game this season for Die Fohlen
  • Thuram could also attract interests from other teams

Tottenham was once linked to Marcus Thuram of Borussia Mönchengladbach, but the cost of getting the French striker was too steep.

However, the 24-year-old’s performance has been on a decline this season and Die Fohlen is reportedly ready to engage in talks for Thuram at a much lower price.

According to L’Equippe, Gladbach is now willing to negotiate a transfer with the starting price pegged at £13 million ($17.3 million).

This would be a huge discount considering Thuram was originally priced at £38 million ($51 million), BILD reported.

The French footballer stayed on, but his efficiency considerably dropped for the 2021-22 season.

Compared to the 11 goals and 12 assists in the 40 matches he played last season, Thuram has only managed to register one goal and an assist across his name in nine appearances.

So if the Spurs are still interested in snagging the French forward, they could save as much as $33 million from the original price that he was initially asked for.

Hence, a move for Thuram this January transfer window can happen if Tottenham is still interested in taking him in.

Despite his struggles, there is no question that Thuram is a player that is destined for greatness.

But this can only materialize if he plays under a system where he can adapt as well as the right team.

Thuram is described as a player with a rare combination of physical prowess, technical ability and speed of mind, traits that could easily see him among the best in the game.

Antonio Conte uses a 3-4-3 formation where Thuram could fit in. He could compliment Harry Kane or possibly even spell the 28-year-old player when the need arises.

There is no doubt that Thuram could recall or even improve his game with a move to Tottenham.

With a much lower price being asked by Gladbach, Tottenham may be wise to see if they can be successful in securing him this time around.

Other teams could also try and look into the French footballer’s situation. But for now, the Spurs are singled out as the team who could have renewed interest.
