KEY POINTS

  • Antonio Conte wants to bring in Andre Onana to bolster the Spurs' goalkeeping needs
  • Newcastle United and Inter Milan are also looking into the possibility of signing Onana
  • Arsenal could also revisit the Onana pursuit in the next transfer window

Andre Onana’s time with AFC Ajax is coming to an end soon, but there are already a couple of teams linked to the Cameroonian goalkeeper.

Tottenham is reportedly interested in the services of the 25-year-old shot-stopper although they are not alone.

Newcastle United is also considering Andre Onana, who is currently serving a suspension for taking a banned substance, 90min reported.

Inter Milan is another team allegedly keeping tabs on the Cameroonian’s situation.

Onana is set to become a free agent after this season, and the word going around is that Lucky Ajax will not hand him a new deal.

This has spurred interest in the Cameroonian, who is likely to get more suitors in the coming transfer windows.

Despite currently being on suspension, Onana is still considered one of the best goalkeepers in Europe to date.

Although his stock may be falling because of his suspension, that could all change by the summer once he is free to sign with any team he chooses.

The Cameroon international has missed the last nine months after being banned by UEFA for testing positive for the forbidden substance known as Furosemide.

Ajax batted that Onana took his wife's medicine by mistake, leading to the reduction of his sentence by three months, 90min revealed in another report.

Regardless, Onana will have several teams to choose from once his contract officially expires.

But so far, it appears the Spurs are going to make an aggressive push.

Head coach Antonio Conte seems determined to bring Onana to Tottenham and has asked Fabio Paratici to pull some strings.

Hugo Lloris' contract will also expire after this season. His status remains unknown.

But even if the Spurs hand him a new contract, Conte wants a new stopper for the club.

Tottenham has another goalkeeper in the mix under the name of Pierluigi Gollini.

The Italian was taken in on loan but has hardly given Lloris pressure to perform better.

In the summer, Arsenal was also linked to a possible move to the Cameroonian, but nothing advanced from that.

He was being considered by the Gunners to replace Bernd Leno, someone who has not exactly performed according to Mikel Arteta’s expectations.

In October, the German goalkeeper claimed he was clueless as to why he lost the No. 1 spot in an interview with Sport Bild.
