  • President Trump is removing supply bottlenecks to help farmers
  • He has spoken with distribution companies
  • Companies are apparently "thrilled" about reopening the economy

The lockdown across the country is supposed to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, but the situation has meant that farmers are finding it difficult to sell their produce. President Donald Trump addressed the issue in a recent interaction with the press and assured the farmers and ranchers that he will remove the bottlenecks in order to help them sell their goods.

In a recent interaction with the press, the President said that he has spoken with the companies that are biggest distributors to “unblock” some of the bottlenecks.

There is still ample supply of food in the country, but the problems so far have been about the distribution bottlenecks, according to President Trump.

"We have tremendous product, we have ample supply," he said. "But, there was a bottleneck cause by this whole pandemic. It was potentially pretty serious and I just got off the phone with the biggest [distributors] in the world."

The President said with the bottlenecks addressed, all the companies are “thrilled” and “gung-ho” about the future.

Trump also said that the companies that he spoke to were being “very unfairly treated” before.
He added that the farmers and the ranchers are “very happy” after he stepped in.

Farmers have been particularly hit by the lockdown because they supply perishable products that can’t be stored for long. Since they have been unable to sell, they are forced to simply throw most of it away, Fox Business reported. Among the products that are reportedly being thrown away are eggs and milk.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, was with Trump when the latter made the comments about helping farmers and ranchers. The governor was there to discuss plans on how the state can reopen its economy safely.

“ Brighter days are ahead for Louisiana and by working together with our federal officials, I know we will get through this,” Edwards tweeted after the meeting.

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany has confirmed that the federal government has been helping Louisiana with “vital resources.” About 12,000 face shields, 809,000 gowns, 1.5 million masks and 21 million gloves have reportedly been sent to the state already.
