The truth about the relationship of soccer icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi has been unfolded.

In anything that has something to do with soccer, more often than not, Ronaldo and Messi’s names will be brought up. And while fans really don’t have a view of how both legends treat each other outside soccer, some instances in the past provided a clue about their true relationship as rivals.

The Ballon d’Or has been the most prestigious award an individual player can achieve in soccer. Through the years, the award has undergone some changes which include a brief merger with FIFA’s Men’s Player of the Year Award. But nevertheless, the voting process has stayed the same

For quite some time, the procedure has been basically voting for the top three best players in soccer. National team coaches, national team captains, reporters, and fans all vote for their top three.

As captains of their respective national teams, Messi and Ronaldo have cast quite a few ballots for the award. And in the past, Messi has voted for Ronaldo a few times. However, the Portuguese striker has never considered Messi as one of his top three players.

ESPN FC recently divulged how Ronaldo snubbed his rival Messi for seven straight years.

After all, there is no reason for people to take this against Ronaldo. In his recent exclusive interview with Piers Morgan, the Portuguese star addressed his relationship with Messi and said that they were never friends. Instead, what they have is more of friendly competition.

“My relationship with him is we are not friends, but we share the stage for 15 years. I have a good relationship with him and I know it pushed me to be a better player and I push him to be a better player,” Ronaldo explained.

Prior to this revelation, a series of comparisons of Roanldo and Messi’s achievements were shown to the public.

A few weeks ago, a live graphic showed how fast Ronaldo and Messi topped the list of goalscores in UEFA.

The graphic started in year 2003, and for more than a decade, players like Thierry Henry, Andriy Shevchenko and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all failed in their quest to beat Raul.

And just when it looked as though Messi would be the man to rise as the goal legend, it was Ronaldo who eventually stole his throne.

But Ronaldo’s goal scores in UEFA was just a respond to a previous statistics which stated that Messi has topped Ronaldo for years. About a month ago, a graph shows that Messi has been dominating his soccer rival Ronaldo since age of 21.
