KEY POINTS

  • Vanessa Bryant won her legal case against the deputies who took and distributed photos of Kobe Bryant’s crash site
  • The mom of four celebrated her victory by sharing a copy of the judge’s verdict on Instagram
  • The names of the deputies can now be obtained by Vanessa’s camp as they make their next move

Vanessa Bryant just won a very important legal battle involving the graphic photos taken from Kobe Bryant’s crash site.

A judge recently ruled in favor of the late NBA superstar’s wife in her case against the deputies who arrived on the tragic accident’s scene, took graphic photos and distributed such images online, TMZ has learned.

U.S. District Judge John F. Walter has given Vanessa the right to obtain the identities of the deputies who captured and distributed the photos taken from the helicopter crash in January 2020 that killed Kobe, 41, their daughter Gianna, 13, and seven other people who joined them on the aerial ride.

County prosecutors previously argued against Vanessa’s plea, saying that the names of the deputies should be remained hidden because exposing them could put their lives in danger.

“Although the Court recognizes that this case has been the subject of public scrutiny and media attention and that the Deputy Defendants are legitimately concerned that they will encounter vitriol and social media attacks, such concerns, by themselves, are not sufficient to outweigh the public’s strong interest in access,” Walter’s ruling was quoted by the Los Angeles Times.

Bryant quickly took to Instagram to celebrate her victory by sharing the LA Times’ report and thanking her lawyers Luis Li and Brad Brian and Judge Walter in the caption.

“Thank you Judge John F. Walter, Luis Li, Brad Brian and @latimes,” she wrote before quoting a statement from Li that read, “Transparency promotes accountability. We look forward to presenting Mrs. Bryant’s case in open court.”

In a follow-up post, she shared a copy of Judge Walter’s verdict. Part of it indicated that the defendants apparently failed to show “compelling reasons” to seal the deputies’ names.

Aside from her recent legal victory, Vanessa is also over the moon because her eldest daughter Natalia has started her journey in the modeling industry. In an Instagram post, she also said that her late husband would be so proud of Natalia.

“Daddy would be so happy that you’re pursuing your modeling career now that you’re 18. You’re beautiful inside and out. Beautiful with makeup and without makeup. We love you,” she wrote alongside a photo of Natalia looking classy with glamorous makeup on.
