The “Walking Dead” Season 10 midseason finale featured yet another brutal death. Dante actor Juan Javier Cardenas talked about the scene in a recent interview, and he also shared his insights about how this scene marks the transformation of another character.

The following article contains “The Walking Dead” Season 10 spoilers.

Dante was revealed as a spy for the Whisperers, and he was killed by Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) after Rosita (Christian Serratos) confronted him. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cardenas revealed that he didn’t know about his character’s dark, ulterior motive until he reached the set on the first day to film his scenes.

Talking about the violent end of his character on the show, Cardenas said that he has worked on such scenes before, and he added that they are “super fun to do.” The scene in the zombie TV series, however, took 15 takes, and Cardenas revealed that it looked “even more horrific in real life.”

The death scene in “The Walking Dead” Season 10 was also significant for Gabriel, Cardenas pointed out. The actor explained that in this scene Gabriel breaks down emotionally. The character was a “leader of civility” and of “moral understanding,” but while killing Dante he became “animalistic.”

Cardenas teased that the death of his character helps serve the story and the story arc of Gabriel. This, Cardenas said, justifies the violent death of Dante.

Another major character who will be departing soon is Michonne (Danai Gurira). In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Angela Kang that she and her team spent some time mapping out the journey of Gurira’s character because they only had a few episodes left with her in the new season. The producer promised that there is more story left for the sword-wielding hero when the show returns.

“The Walking Dead” Season 10 will return on Feb. 23, 2020, TV Guide reported.
