Stocks hit fresh 2009 highs on Wednesday in a broad-based rally following economic data that suggested a stronger-than-anticipated global recovery.

According to the latest available figures, the Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 108.30 points, or 1.12 percent, to close unofficially at 9,791.71. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> added 16.12 points, or 1.53 percent, to 1,068.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> rose 30.51 points, or 1.45 percent, to 2,133.15.
