A former Warriors star was happy to have witnessed Stephen Curry endure the toughest challenge in his career.

Like any other star player, Curry had also hit rock bottom at one point during early years with the Warriors.

According to his former Warriors teammate Corey Maggette, who played for the Dubs from 2008 to 2010, “there was a time” when Curry had a terrible “ankle injury” and the team was ready to “give up” on him.

"For me, just looking back at the player he has become," Maggette recently told NBC Sports. "I'm just truly proud of him. I'm proud of his work ethic, I'm proud of the drive, I'm proud of the perseverance. Because there was a time that, basically, the Golden State Warriors were going to give up on Steph because of the ankle injury.”

“The fact is, Steph had to really battle that mentally as a player,” he continued. “I remember going to physical therapy with Steph at the time early on in his career when he had those ankle issues.”

Maggette went on to divulge that at the time, Curry “wasn’t sure” about what lies ahead.

But instead of succumbing to the near-career-ending injury, the now two-time NBA scoring champ relied on his “faith.”

With the help and support of his family, Curry managed to make it through and went on to become the player he is today.

"He wasn't quite sure, he wasn't sure about whether he would be able to continue to play with his ankle injuries,” Maggette recalled. “But man, you just have to give him a lot of credit, I know he's a man of faith, a man to have faith in Jesus Christ to be able to keep battling through and have faith in his family and the people around him to be in a position where he's the greatest shooter to ever play of all time."

This season, Curry is primed for another MVP run as the Warriors are back in their championship form.

To date, he is the second-best scorer in the league, sitting just behind Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant in the top scorers’ list with 27.7 points per game.

Curry also claimed arguably the best individual recognition of his illustrious NBA career—becoming the greatest three-point shooter of all time.

He reached the feat when he dethroned NBA legend Ray Allen as the player with the most three-point shots made.
