It has been 20 years since the tragic murder of Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez – better known as simply Selena – and Jennifer Lopez honored the late music icon at the Latin Billboard Music Awards Thursday on Telemundo with a touching performance. The tribute was one of many memorable music moments from Latin music’s big night.

Jennifer Lopez took the stage Thursday night with Los Dinos, Selena’s former band comprised of many of her family members. The group worked their way through a moving medley of Selena’s most famous songs, including “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” “No Me Queda Más,” and “I Could Fall in Love.” The intricate performance included multiple on-stage wardrobe quick changes from Lopez, as well as an elaborate set design featuring screens displaying pictures of Selena. Lopez was the perfect choice for the tribute considering the actress/singer first gained fame for playing Selena in the 1997 biopic "Selena."

Though it was by far the most memorable, Lopez’s tribute was not the only big music number of the night. There were performances from many other artists at the awards show, including Marc Anthony, Daddy Yankee, Romeo Santos and Afrojack, Ne-Yo and Luis Fonsi.

As for the awards themselves, Romeo Santos and Enrique Iglesias cleaned up Thursday night. Santos, the most nominated artist in the history of the Latin Billboard Music Awards, took home 10 awards, including artist of the year, songwriter of the year, producer of the year, as well as top Latin album of the year and tropical album of the year for "Forumla, Vol. 2." Iglesias won nine awards, including Latin pop album of the year for "Sex & Love," Latin pop song of the year, airplay song of the year, hot Latin song of the year and streaming song of the year for "Bailando."

However, Thursday night’s awards will almost certainly be remembered for Lopez’s emotional performance. The tribute will likely introduce a whole new generation of fans to Selena’s music.
