KEY POINTS

  • Vince Carter is one of the NBA's most iconic players
  • Carter played for eight teams across 22 seasons
  • In his early years, Carter was one of the league's most exciting dunkers

A year ago today, Vince Carter, one of the most iconic players to ever compete in the NBA, played the final game of his basketball career.

One of the most talked-about prospects coming into the league, Carter lived up to much of the hype surrounding him and went on to play an astounding 22 seasons in the league, which included a number of memorable moments and milestones.

Throughout his career, Carter was named Rookie of the Year, became an eight-time NBA All-Star, and was a key piece in a number of teams’ postseason runs.

He averaged 16.7 points per game in his two-decade-long stint in the league, suiting up for eight different franchises, most notably the Toronto Raptors, New Jersey Nets and Dallas Mavericks.

At the start of the 2019-2020 NBA season, Carter--who was in his second year with the Atlanta Hawks--announced that it would be his final NBA season.

Unfortunately for Carter--and the rest of the NBA--the season would end up being cut short due to the rampaging COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, Carter would only get to play in 60 games in his final season, the last being on March 11, 2020, against the New York Knicks--the day the NBA announced that it would be shutting the rest season down.

Carter checked back in for the final 20 seconds of the game and drained one final three, much to the delight of the crowd in attendance. He finished with 5 points on 12 minutes of action.

While Carter’s longevity in the league will forever be part of his legacy as a basketball player, he will be most remembered for what he was able to do above the rim.

During his early years, Carter was one of the league’s most exciting dunkers and was sure to provide a highlight-reel-worthy throwdown every single time he sets foot on the court.

As his career progressed, Carter switched up his style and began to play a little less flashy, but always remained effective. Every now and then, the man once known as “Half-Man, Half-Amazing” would turn back the clock and throw down a nasty dunk.

From 1998 to 2019, here are the best dunks from each one of Carter’s 22 seasons in the NBA.
