Jamie Lynn Spears and her family were left reeling after a horrific accident left Maddie Aldridge in critical condition. The 8-year-old was initially believed to have been on a hunting expedition when she flipped the all terrain vehicle she was riding and found herself submerged in water for several minutes.

While the extent of Maddie’s injuries remains unclear, TMZ has reported that the Polaris’ are known for flipping on people. Aldridge was riding a Polaris RZR 170, which reportedly did not have any pending lawsuits, though the Polaris RZR did. One rider was left with a fractured spine while another was severely injured when the ATV’s roll cage collapsed on her. The publication also reported that the instruction manual that comes with the ATV contained a warning about allowing children under 10 to drive it.

The details surrounding Aldridge’s accident are truly horrifying. According to a report from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s department, the young girl was driving the Polaris ATV around 3 p.m. CST when she swerved to avoid driving into a drainage ditch. That decision reportedly caused the vehicle to flip into a pond. Aldridge and the ATV were immediately submerged. TMZ reported that Spears and Aldridge’s stepfather Jamie Watson were looking on nearby.

They immediately ran to help her, but struggled to free her from both the seatbelt and safety netting. The sheriff claims that paramedics were forced to intervene and were finally able to get to Aldridge. She was rushed to a New Orleans hospital in critical, but stable, condition.

Spears has not yet spoken about her daughter’s accident. Her older sister Britney Spears has, however, asked fans to send prayers to her niece. In a single tweet on Monday, she told fans that Aldridge was in need of some positivity, sharing a photo of the child and her dog.
