Serena Williams recently opened up about her relationship with Meghan Markle amid rumors that the Duchess of Sussex will attend the Wimbledon to watch her tournament.

During a recent interview (via Daily Mail), Williams said that she and Markle have a wonderful friendship. “Every year for a couple years she comes out to Wimbledon, has supported me… Now she’s supporting me in a different role but our friendship is still exactly the same. We always have supported each other, just been there for each other through a lot. I look forward to it,” she said.

During the same interview, Williams was asked if she considers herself a Wimbledon royalty, and she said yes. “If there was a Wimbledon royalty, I would like to believe I would be Wimbledon royalty because I’ve done pretty well here in the past,” she said.

Meanwhile, there are rumors suggesting Markle and Kate Middleton will make an appearance at the Royal Box at Wimbledon on July 15. But the Kensington Palace just announced that the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex will actually be at the match on Saturday, July 14.

“The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), and the Duchess of Sussex, will attend the Ladies’ Singles Finals at The Championships, Wimbledon, on Saturday, 14th July. Prior to the start of the day, Their Royal Highnesses will meet a number of former Wimbledon Ladies Champions, as well as some of the Championships’ ball boys and ball girls, to hear more about their experiences of the tournament,” the statement read.

Middleton and Markle are both tennis enthusiasts. The 36-year-old mom of three is still on maternity leave, but she has decided to drop by the tournament this year. Markle is currently in Dublin with Prince Harry for their official tour, but she will return to London in time for the Wimbledon match.
