With the highly-anticipated launch of General Motors' (GM) Chevy Corvette C8 fresh off the presses, news of the next iteration of the sports car has already emerged. Plans for the Corvette C8 Z06 reveal an even more powerful engine that could top out at a rumored 800 horsepower.

The powertrain that is destined for the Z06 is speculated to come from the Cadillac, featuring a twin-turbo V8 design that has been dubbed the Blackwing, Automobile magazine reported. The Cadillac is currently equipped with a 4.2-liter engine with double-overhead cams and a 550-horsepower rating.

The new engine plans aren’t the only changes that Chevy is reportedly making to the Z06 Corvette. Unlike the new C8’s eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Z06 is rumored to feature a 10-speed dual-clutch transmission with the possibility of a manual transmission option, according to the news outlet.

In a future rendition, the C8 may come down the assembly line with a hybrid powertrain that could output as much as 1,000 horsepower, Motor Authority said. It may also reportedly have all-wheel drive.

The Corvette C8 Z06 will sit above the base model Stingray and is expected to be revealed in 2021 as a 2022 model.

Shares of General Motors stock were up 0.66 percent as of 3:20 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
