Which "Game of Thrones" characters are still alive? Ellaria (Indira Varma) and Tyene (Rosabell Laurenti Sanders) are not among them. HBO

With "Game of Thrones" officially heading into its final season, fans will need to prepare for a significant amount of death when the show eventually returns to HBO.

Though fans could be waiting until 2019 for the final six episodes of the series, they should be prepared for a lot of death, if Kit Harington, who portrays Jon Snow on the series, is predicting how things will end correctly.

After the Season 7 finale of the show, Harington told Deadline that fans should be prepared for a lot of deaths in the final season, due to the sheer number of characters, both loved and reviled, who are still left on the canvas.

"...With so few characters left, they (the viewers) should get used to and get ready for next year is 'Thrones' returning to form and killing its main characters quickly. They're going to go, and they're going to go fast, and I think that the payoff of our characters not being in great peril this year will be that, next year, it's going to be a bloodbath," he said.

Harrington had a point, as Season 7 ended with a large number of characters who started the season still alive and well in Westeros. So who can fans expect to see in Season 8? Check below for a full recap of characters who died in Season 7, who is still alive, and who's fates we just don't know.

The biggest schemer in Westeros, who is to blame for the entire war that has been dragged out in Westeros for the last seven seasons finally met his end after Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright), Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Arya (Maisie Williams) teamed up to expose all of his lies and corruption against their family and others, before he was sentenced to death. He was somewhat ironically killed with his own dagger, after Arya slashed his throat with it.

Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma), Tyene Sand (Rosabell Laurenti Sanders), Nymeria Sand (Jessica Henwick) and Obara Sand (Keisha Castle-Hughes):

After Euron (Pilou Asbæk) attacked the Greyjoy fleet, Nymeria and Obara were killed instantly. Tyene and Ellaria were taken prisoner and brought to King;s Landing, where Cersei took revenge on them for Myrcella's (Nell Tiger Free) murder, giving Tyene a Kiss of Death and forcing the mother and daughter to spend the rest of their lives together locked in a cell, unable to comfort one another due to the chains that kept them apart.

Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg): The woman with the sharpest tongue in all of Westeros was killed after the Lannister armies sacked Highgarden and she was given poison to drink. Though her death was a mercy killing, she still managed to get one over on Cersei and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) by admitting before she died that she had been the one to kill Joffrey (Jack Gleeson).

Benjen Stark (Joseph Mawle): The undead uncle of the Stark children finally died completely after getting Jon to safety when he was at risk of being taken by the Wights.

While we can hope that Tormund and Beric didn't die when the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and the Army of the Dead finally got through the wall by using a reanimated Viserion to knock it down, we don't know for sure. They seemed as though they had gotten far enough away from where the Wall was destroyed, but It's unclear if they did actually get out alive.

Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whalen): After also being taken prisoner by Euron, she was last seen when he paraded her through the streets of King's Landing in chains. What happened to her afterwards remains a mystery.
