The USGA has not followed the PGA Tour’s lead in suspending players who have joined the LIV Golf Invitational Series. That decision has created the possibility of a golfer winning 2022 U.S. Open just one week after participating in the inaugural event for the new Saudi-backed tour.

The PGA Tour suspended 17 players for playing in the LIV Golf event at the Centurion Club near London from June 9-11. Some of those golfers are already in Brookline, Massachusetts, to vie for the 2022 U.S. Open championship from June 16-19.

Will someone win the U.S. Open after playing for LIV Golf? The betting odds suggest that it’s unlikely, though not out of the realm of possibility.

Dustin Johnson has the best U.S. Open odds of any player who competed at the first LIV Golf tournament. Johnson has +4000 odds at BetMGM to win the major, putting him behind 15 other players in the field.

Rory McIlroy is the U.S. Open favorite with +1100 odds. Nine golfers have +2500 odds or better to win the year’s third major championship.

A two-time major winner, Johnson won the 2016 U.S. Open. At No. 16 in the world, Johnson is the highest-ranked golfer to join LIV Golf. Johnson resigned from the PGA Tour, signing a deal reportedly worth at least $125 million with the rival golf league.

Johnson tied for seventh place at the first LIV Golf tournament.

Phil Mickelson has received plenty of criticism for joining LIV Golf on a deal that is believed to be worth around $200 million. One year removed from becoming the oldest major winner in history, Mickelson has +20000 odds to break his own record at the U.S. Open.

The U.S. Open is the only major championship that has eluded Mickelson. The 51-year-old has been a runner-up in the tournament on six different occasions.

Louis Oosthuizen is second among LIV golfers with +6600 odds to win the U.S. Open. Oosthuizen has a pair of second-place finishes at the U.S. Open, including last year.

Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed both have +8000 U.S. Open odds. They are expected to make their LIV Gold debuts at the end of June and receive a PGA Tour suspension. DeChambeau won the 2020 U.S. Open. Reed finished in fourth place at the 2018 U.S. Open after winning that year’s Masters.

Taylor Gooch has +10000 U.S. Open odds after finishing in ninth place at the Centurion Club. Coming off a 33rd-place finish, Kevin Na has +12500 U.S. Open odds. Sergio Garcia also has +12500 odds.

Branden Grace is a +25000 long shot.
