  • Wolverhampton Wanderers FC is reportedly interested in signing AC Milan forward Rafael Leao
  • Leao has been compared by his coaches to both Cristiano Ronaldo and Original Ronaldo
  • Wolves is reportedly planning to land Leao with the help of renowned agent Jorge Mendes

Wolves is said to be collaborating with sports agent Jorge Mendes for a possible move for AC Milan rising star Rafael Leao, who has earned comparisons with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Brazilian legend “Original” Ronaldo.

After an impressive Premier League season, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC is now reportedly keen on adding more young talent to its already stacked squad.

The Wolves currently have two of the most sought-after prospects in Europe, Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez. However, Calciomercato (via HITC.com) reported that the Molineux club has shown interest in AC Milan star Leao.

The Portuguese forward is reportedly the latest client of renowned soccer agent Mendes to be linked to Wolves. It has been said that the club will be looking to take advantage of Mendes’ extensive connections and ties across Europe’s top five leagues. The report further revealed that Wolves is keen on adding Leao through Mendes as soon as the transfer window opens this summer.

Leao burst onto the scene in Italy after having an impressive run with AC Milan. The former Sporting Lisbon wonderkid not only drew attention from Premier League but is also reportedly targeted by Milan’s Serie A rival, Napoli.

Leao’s superb form also saw him being compared to not just his compatriot Ronaldo but also to the Brazilian legend of the same name, “Original” Ronaldo or “Il Fenomeno.”

The 21-year-old’s former Sporting Lisbon coach, Tiago Fernandes, once told Tuttomercatoweb that Leao fairly resembles the style of playing of “Il Fenomeno.”

“Rafael [Leao] is a No. 9. I’d say that he reminds me of ‘Fenomeno’ Ronaldo for his pace, technique and the quality of his finishing,” Fernandes said.

Prior to making this comparison, Fernandes also claimed to L’Equipe that Leao was even “better than” the Ronaldo who has won the Ballon d’Or award five times when comparing their skills during their formative years in Sporting Lisbon’s famed youth academy.

Despite the strong interest and the possible contribution of Mendes, Wolves may still find it hard to land Leao this summer. In a recent interview with Sky Sports Italia (via Football Italia), the Milan forward said he hopes to stay with the Italian side for a longer period of time.

“I work every day to play from the start. If the coach puts me on the pitch to play, I’m ready. My objective is to wear the Milan jersey as a starter and be an important player for them. I’m happy here at Milan, I hope to stay here for a long time,” Leao said.

With just five goals in 28 games for Milan, however, Leao has a long way to go if he is to match either Ronaldo in the years to come.
