A 29-year-old woman in India died Tuesday, hours after receiving an injection from a registered medical practitioner.

According to the woman's family, the victim, who lived in the southern state of Telangana, had been suffering from a cold and cough for a couple of days.

On Monday evening, she went to the medical practitioner, who gave her an injection instead of tablets. The following day, the woman started vomiting and fell unconscious.

The victim's husband immediately called the doctor to explain his wife's condition. The doctor suggested the woman, identified as Dasari Swarnalatha, be taken to a government hospital. However, before reaching the facility, the woman died, Telangana Today reported.

The victim's family members took Swarnalatha's body to the doctor's house, and protested outside demanding answers for the negligence. It remains unclear what injection was administered to the woman.

The victim's husband also filed a police complaint against the doctor, identified only by his first name, Venkatesh. According to Siasat Daily, the doctor has been absconding since the woman's death. It remains unclear if any charges have been filed against the accused.

Last month, a 45-year-old woman died in a hospital after a staff member allegedly administered the wrong injection. The family of the victim accused the hospital of negligence. The incident took place at the Government Medical College Hospital in the southern state of Kerala, the police said. The woman was taken to the hospital after she showed dengue fever symptoms. However, lab test reports ruled out the possibility of the virus. Her husband told the local media her health was improving, but when she was given an injection, she fell sick. A police complaint was filed, and the Medical College Police registered a case against the hospital staff under Section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligence.
