World Students' Day is marked annually on Oct. 15 to commemorate the birthday of former Indian president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Born to a Muslim family in 1931, Kalam became the 11th president of India on July 18, 2002. During his five-year tenure, he was loved by the people and was called the "People's President."
