KEY POINTS

  • Brock Lesnar reverts to a babyface character in his return
  • Paul Heyman may defect at some point back
  • Lesnar is expected to shed light on his WWE return

Roman Reigns retained his WWE Universal title at this year's Summer Slam event, defeating John Cena in the main event on Saturday, August 21.

However, the fans in attendance got an even bigger treat when former WWE champion Brock Lesnar emerged from the shadows, leaving Reigns and Paul Heyman in shock.

This sets the stage to rekindle an old rivalry between the “Beast Incarnate” and the “Tribal Chief.”

But caught in the crossfire is Heyman, someone who backed Lesnar before shifting his focus on Reigns.

Lesnar returns after nearly 17 months sporting a new look. With Reigns living it up as a heel character, it seems apparent that the 44-year-old Lesnar will transition into a babyface wrestler.

It is a role that he has taken on in the past although it remains to be seen if it will work. But this early, most suggest that seeing Lesnar take on a role potentially similar to what Stone Cold Steve Austin did in the past could be something WWE fans would love to see.

The coming WWE shows should be interesting with Lesnar likely to shed light on his return. But one person that most will have their eyes on will be Heyman.

Having handled Lesnar before, could there be some heat coming the way of Reigns’ handler? If not, could there be a chance the 55-year-old defects and rejoins his former client.

If that is in the script, that is unlikely to happen this early. Heyman is likely to stick with Reigns for now for as long as he is WWE champion.

But should the tide turn at some point, expect some rumors suggesting Heyman to shift sides.

The current characters they portray may also dictate who will become the WWE Universal Champion moving forward. Reigns and Heyman are likely to pull out all the stops to keep the title on their side.

As for Lesnar, it also remains to be seen if he will move forward alone. The last time out, it was Heyman doing all the talking with the “Beast Incarnate” minimally talking.

Could that change with the reincarnated Brock Lesnar?
