  • Dominik Mysterio says that he would be honored to take up his father's ring name
  • He also acknowledges that he will need to earn both mask and name
  • Dominik and Rey Mysterio were drafted to Monday Night Raw most recently

Dominik Mysterio has enjoyed quite the success since joining WWE, but he recently revealed that he has a plan for when his father inevitably calls it a career.

Speaking on the Out of Character podcast, Mysterio shared that he would be more than honored to take up the mantle of “Rey Mysterio.”

“I think the long goal here, the endgame, is to eventually take over the Rey Mysterio name. That’s the legacy within it. He’s Rey Mysterio. It’s only right to make a Jr.,” said the 24-year-old WWE superstar as quoted by Ringside News.

“Traditionally in Lucha culture, and in Hispanic culture, that’s tradition. That’s what you do. I kind of just showed up and Dom Mysterio organically happened. Everything happened so fast.”

The son of the legendary Rey Mysterio has enjoyed quite a run of success in WWE, featuring a high-profile singles match with Seth Rollins and capturing the tag team titles with his father at Wrestlemania Backlash for a 63-day reign.

However, he realizes that being christened as “Rey Mysterio Jr.” will take more than just being his son and a claim.

He knows he must earn it.

“He’s mentioned before that the mask is something I have to earn along with the name. If one day he wants to pass it on to me after he retires, or he wants to make me earn it after he retires or something, whatever it is, I’m up for it,” Dominik stated.

“Hispanically, culturally, it’s only right, but whatever he wants at the end of the day because he’s the one that made it what it is. I’ll respect his decision whatever it is.”

Dominik and his father were drafted to Raw on the October 1 episode of Smackdown as part of the 2021 WWE draft.

A feud with current Raw Tag Team Champions Randy Orton and Riddle could be on the horizon for the pair after a program with either the Street Profits or AJ Styles an Omos.

Whatever the case may be, Dominik knows how important the “Rey Mysterio” name is to the industry and will do whatever it takes to be worthy of carrying it to the future.
