Jeff Hardy was released by WWE, but the real score behind it was never cleared out.

Most have heard that it was drug-related although this was never properly backed up.

However, some clarity may have cropped up thanks to some details shared by Jeff’s older brother, Matt.

The elder Hardy gave some updates on his Twitch stream on Monday, January 31 although this could just be part of the story.

Matt addressed the things that went down on the night when the former WWE Champion walked out in a particular show.

First, he cleared things up on insinuations that it was another drug-related matter and bared how the 44-year-old took a drug test, something that stemmed from his erratic behavior.

“Whenever my brother ended up being released, he had taken a drug test. Usually, these drug tests come back in 10 to 14 days. Those 10 to 14 days had been up for him, and he never got a result, and he was curious as to where his result was because he knew he had passed his drug test because he knew he hadn’t been doing any drugs, and he’s been clean,” Matt stated.

“Hello, he’s Jeff Hardy, he’s a weird dude. That’s kind of what he does,” he added.

As for the drug test, Matt claimed that his brother was told to either go into rehab or be released. Jeff preferred the latter.

“They kind of gave him an ultimatum. And he just said, ‘Okay, you can release me then, 'cause I don’t need to go to rehab.’ That was his mentality at the time,” Matt shared.

Strangely, the man known for his famous “Swanton Bomb” move was told that he would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Instead, Jeff thumbed down the idea and just wanted the results of his drug test just to clear his name.

Jeff and his wife dealt with WWE and the drug testing company with the help of a lawyer.

In the end, they did get the drug tests back and it was found that Jeff was compliant and everything tested negative for drug use.

“So after my brother and his wife dealt with WWE and the drug testing company quite a bit, they actually spoke with a lawyer and kind of had them help them out a little bit, and a just a couple of days ago, he got the drug test back. And the drug test was compliant, everything was a negative, he passed on all levels,” Matt divulged.
