Xiaomi Mi 5 At Mobile World Congress
Xiaomi will showcase the Mi 5 smartphone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, but won't be announcing any expansion plans. Reuters

The Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone is poised to get announced on Feb. 24. Fresh speculations suggest that the Chinese firm may also announce the Windows 10 Mobile variant of Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone.

Xiaomi and Microsoft have worked in the past in building the Windows 10 Mobile ROM for Xiaomi Mi 4 smartphone. The newly launched Mi Pad 2 tablet is also available in a Windows 10 Mobile variant.

As of this writing, other than Microsoft, there is no major smartphone OEM having a smartphone running on Windows 10 Mobile OS. Rumors are rife that the Xiaomi Mi 5 Windows 10 Mobile variant may get announced during the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 tech trade show, WM Power User reported.

Even the smartphone is expected to get unwrapped on Feb. 24, a teaser image from the company suggest that the smartphone will be previewed at the MWC 2016 event. One of the leaked photos of the retail package of the Xiaomi Mi 5 that came emerged in the previous week revealed the four color variants of the upcoming smartphone namely, blue, gold, white and black.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to be available in multiple variants. Two editions of the Xiaomi Mi 5 will feature metallic chassis. One of them will feature 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage whereas the other one will come with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will come in two other variants with rear panel made up of 2.5D curved glass. Both variants will come with 4 GB of RAM and different storage sizes of 32 GB and 64 GB, Gizmo China reported.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be arriving with a 5.2-inch display. Its rear camera will be of 16-meagpixel and its frontal camera will be of 13-megapixel. It will be powered by Snapdragon 820 and will come packed with a 3600 mAh battery.
