Xiaomi has announced the Mi Pad 2 tablet. It will be available in Android and Windows 10 variant from next month. MIUI

Xiaomi has announced the all new Mi Pad 2 tablet, which was unveiled alongside the Redmi Note 3 handset. Compared to the predecessor model from last year, the new tablet sports a better design. It is also lighter and slimmer than the original model.

According to MIUI, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 comes with a full-metal body. Its thickness is 6.95 mm and it weighs only 322 grams. The predecessor model had a thickness of 8.5 mm and weighs 360 grams.

Like the predecessor model, the Mi Pad 2 does not offer cellular connectivity. It comes with a display of 7.9-inch and it offers a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels.

The original model came with Tegra K1 chipset from Nvidia. On the other hand, the newer tablet comes with an Intel Atom X5-Z8500 chipset that features a 64-bit quad-core processor. It is supported by 2 GB of RAM.

For connectivity, the Mi Pad 2 tablet offers features like USB Type-C and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac. On the rear side, the tablet features an 8-megapixel camera. The front-facing camera present on it is of 5-megapixel. The Xiaomi Mi Pad from 2014 came with 6,700 mAh capacity battery. Its successor features a smaller battery of 6,190 mAh capacity.

The Mi Pad 2 tablet is available in two storage variants of 16 GB and 64 GB. Both the devices are priced at RMB 999 ($156) and RMB 1,299 ($203), respectively. It comes in two color editions of dark gray and champagne.

The Mi Pad 2 comes with Android Lollipop OS that is modified by MIUI from Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer is also offering a Windows 10 variant of Mi Pad 2 tablet. The Windows 10 Mi Pad 2 is only with 64 GB storage. It is priced at RMB 1,299 ($203). Both Android and Windows 10 editions of the tablet will be available for purchase from next month.
