The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 fitness band was officially announced at the start of this month. However, it will not be the only wearable device from Xiaomi this year. The Xiaomi smartwatch is also rumored to be in the works and it is likely to release in the second half of 2016.

That the Xiaomi smartwatch release date will be scheduled in the second half of 2016 was confirmed by the CEO of Huami, the firm that has manufactured the Mi Band devices. Liu De, the co-founder and VP for Xiaomi, had also confirmed recently that the company is building its first smartwatch.

A well-known analyst from China, Pan Jiutang, has also said that Xiaomi will soon announce its smartwatch. He added the power usage of Xiaomi’s smartwatch will be similar to wearables from Garmin. It is expected to be available in two variants that are expected to be priced at 999 Yuan ($152) and 1,599 Yuan ($243) respectively, Gizmo China reported.

Rumors have it that the Xiaomi smartwatch will be coming with a round display. Its exterior is speculated to be made up of brushed metal. It is also expected to include a plus wave velocity biometric recognition feature. Speculations suggest that it may not include Android Wear OS.

The rumor mill is calling the purported Xiaomi smartwatch different names such as Xiaomi Mi Smartwatch and Mi Watch. However, the Xiaomi has not confirmed on its official name and specs yet.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 that was launched on June 2 comes with a scratch resistant and anti-fingerprint coated OLED screen of 0.42 inches. It can provide health data such as sleep pattern, heart rate counter, steps walked, and more.

The Mi Band 2 features a IP67 certified water resistant chassis. It will be available for purchase starting from tomorrow with a price tag of $22. It comes in color variants like green, blue, orange and black.
