7-Eleven, Inc. announced on Wednesday that it has surpassed McDonald's Corp. as the company with the most retail outlets around the world.

McDonald's had reported a total of 31,062 restaurants as of March 31. As of the end of June, 7-Eleven said that there were 32,711 7-Eleven operated, franchised and licensed convenience stores in 17 nations and regions around the world. In third place is Subway Restaurants with 27,836 outlets.

7-Eleven reported that it had opened 1,086 new stares from the beginning of the year. Nearly 50 percent of 7-Eleven stores are in the United States and Japan.
