Apparel retailer Abercrombie & Fitch Co. announced Thursday that its sales fell from the same month last year.

Sales dropped by 30 percent from net sales of $228.9 million in the company said. Company direct-to-consumer net sales declined 17 percent to $14.1 million ended February 28, 2009.

Abercrombie & Fitch comparable store sales decreased 27 percent, while that brands under the Abercrombie umbrella also fell. Hollister Co. comparable store sales decreased 33 percent and RUEHL comparable store sales decreased 33 percent.

In January, Abercrombie & Fitch reported a 23 percent decline in same-store sales as well as a 19 percent drop in net sales to $757 million.

Another apparel retailer, Gap saw same-store sales were down by 12 percent for the month of February, and American Eagle Outfit, Inc reported a 7 percent fell down in comparable store sales.

Abercrombie & Fitch shares dropped sharply over 15 percent in the morning trade.
