Adele and boyfriend Simon Konecki welcomed a son, it was announced this weekend. Hundreds of fans and media outlets took to the web to congratulate the singing sensation but a few cyberbullies, often referred to as internet trolls, shockingly tweeted cruel statements.

According to Jezebel, one Twitter user @PerfFemale, wrote: "Aw Adele gave birth to a baby. Is it fat and handicapped lol? Just murder it already lol."

According to the site, the account was later deleted.

“Adele was pregnant? I thought she was fat,” wrote another.

Even as the horrendous comments made headlines, the bitter tweets continued.

“Adele has given birth this week. It must have been tough being pregnant for the last four years,” tweeted @TheToxicWaster.

“Adele had a baby boy! I hope she does not eat him like that one roman god or whatever,” posted @scrublord. “You see, Adele is a chunky person. It’s a fat joke.”

Comedian Joan Rivers, who often uses Twitter to poke fun of celebrities also joined in on the Adele bashing.

“Congratulations to Adele on the birth of her 68 pound 8 ounces bouncing baby boy,” wrote Rivers.

Mommyish has compiled the “7 Most Vile Responses To Adele’s Baby News.”

This includes such vile tweets as, “Hope Adele's kid is healthy. Really don't want to be spending next year listening to an album about a dead baby,” posted by @Clarkie_02.

“I really hope Adele's baby is born dead,” tweeted @the_araiza. “Can you imagine the record?”

There’s no denying that bullying celebrities via Twitter is becoming more and more common.

In August ITV News reported that "Australia's Next Top Model" judge Charlotte Dawson attempted suicide after she was viciously harassed on the social networking site and told to end her life.

That same month, TMZ reported that LeAnn Rimes sought treatment for stress relief after she was ridiculed and threatened by various Twitter users.

One of the most obscene examples of Twitter bashing emerged this summer when “X-Factor" judge Gary Barlow became the victim of ruthless posts after his wife gave birth to a stillborn daughter.

Adele announced her pregnancy on her official website in June.

"I'm delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together,” she wrote. “I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx”

Weeks later, rumors swirled that the acclaimed songstress was already well into her pregnancy when the announcement was made.
