American International Group, Inc will report a first quarter a loss smaller than the $61.7 billion fourth quarter loss it suffered at the end of 2009, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

AIG is set to release its earnings announcement on May 7, people told Bloomberg. AIG officials declined to comment.
