The last video game that was based on the “Alien” film franchise was 2014’s “Alien: Isolation.” Now, it looks like a new “Alien” video game will be announced soon thanks to a recently discovered trademark filing.

Twentieth Century Fox has filed a trademark for an unannounced video game called “Alien: Blackout,” according to Eurogamer. The trademark filing was actually first spotted last week, but it’s just starting to gain attention now due to its potential launch date.

Earlier this month, The Game Wards chief Geoff Keighley posted an image on Twitter that shows the phrase “Worlds Will Change.” The font and style used for the image are very reminiscent of the logo for Wayland-Yutani, the fictional evil corporation in the “Alien” film franchise that also has the slogan “Building Better Worlds.” With Keighley posting the image, it’s now believed that “Alien: Blackout” will be officially announced during The Game Wards on Dec. 6.

So, what exactly is “Alien: Blackout”? It’s very likely that the upcoming game is being developed by Cold Iron Studios, which was acquired by 20th Century Fox subsidiary FoxNext back in January. FoxNext did confirm at the time that Cold Iron would be working on a new “Alien” video game that was described as a “AAA shooter.”

Cold Iron was founded in 2015 by former developers from Cryptic Studios, which is mostly known for “Neverwinter,” “Star Trek Online” and “City of Heroes.” All of the aforesaid titles were massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) and it’s possible that “Alien: Blackout” could be the same or carry some of the same elements.

“Cold Iron Studios has amazing design, craftsmanship, and development talent that we are excited to welcome at FoxNext Games as we pursue our goal to build a multi-platform, multi-genre portfolio of great games. I am a personal fan of Cold Iron’s previous work and all of us at FoxNext Games are thrilled to be working with them as they create an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved ‘Alien’ universe,” FoxNext Games president Aaron Loeb said in January.

Another detail that was confirmed about the upcoming “Alien” video game is that it will be available for consoles and the PC. This shouldn’t be a surprise considering that “Alien: Isolation” is also available on those platforms.

“We believe in FoxNext’s vision and we are thrilled about the opportunity to explore an amazing and rich universe. Our background in building online worlds and taking established franchises to the next level in interactive entertainment is a precise fit with our product roadmap ahead; we can’t wait to share more information soon,” Cold Iron CEO Craig Zinkievich said.
