‘America’s Got Talent’
Will Christian Guardino, Howie Mandel's golden buzzer recipient, become the winner of “America’s Got Talent” Season 12? NBC

America’s Got Talent” Season 12 just named its third golden buzzer recipient.

On Tuesday night, a 16-year-old boy named Christian Guardino won the hearts of judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel. Guardino, who is from Long Island, New York, looked extremely nervous when he went up the stage. Cowell spoke with Guardino briefly in an attempt to calm him down, and the teen’s nerves eased a bit.

Guardino sang a soulful rendition of The Jackson 5’s hit song, “Who’s Lovin’ You,” and immediately shocked everyone with his powerful voice. During his performance, the contestant received a standing ovation from the audiences and judges. He ended up feeling emotional, and his mom was also seen crying in the sidelines.

Cowell praised Guardino and compared him to a little mouse that turned into a lion the moment he started singing. “You are one of my favorite contestants I’ve seen this year. Not only in terms of your voice. I just like you. There’s something about you, and it’s just the best possible feeling when we meet someone like you,” he said.

But it was after Mandel asked Guardino what his biggest wish was at that moment that the young boy’s life changed forever. He told Mandel that it is his biggest dream to receive a golden buzzer, and the judge made it happen for him. Guardino will automatically advance to the live shows in the coming weeks and will be joining Cowell’s golden buzzer pick, Mandy Harvey, as well as Mel B’s golden buzzer recipient, Darci Lynne Farmer.

Meanwhile, other than Guardino’s voice, the young talent also captured the hearts of the audiences with his touching story. On his National Geographic profile, it was revealed that he was diagnosed with a retinal disease called Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA). Luckily for him, he was operated on, and now, he can see well enough to read enlarged notes on music sheets.

His mom, Elizabeth, also said during her “America’s Got Talent” interview that her son was blind for most of his life until he received an experimental gene therapy treatment.

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
