Animal Kingdom ridden by New York-based jockey John Velazquez, has won the 137th Kentucky Derby.

It was second time that a horse who won Turfway's Spiral Stakes has won the Kentucky Derby.

Jockey John Velazquez also got his first Derby winner in 13 tries. The time for the mile and one-quarter was 2:02.04.

Animal Kingdom, who went off at 20-1, paid $43.80 in front of a record crowd of 164,858.

Nehro finished in second, while Mucho Macho Man and Shackleford were third and fourth, respectively.

Dialed In went off as the 5-1 favorite, but finished eighth.
