Apple AirPods Pro 2 Arriving Soon, Report Says – What To Expect

Apple has a new pair of AirPods Pro that could be launched in the coming months, a report says.

Cupertino tech giant Apple has some popular audio accessories in the AirPods, the AirPods Pro and the new and expensive AirPods Max. All three appeal to specific crowds and budgets and each comes with a set of perks unique to them.

Previous reports indicated that Apple was working on a next-gen AirPods Pro model. The new audio accessory was said to feature a new design different from the existing model but still unique among the device’s competitors, particularly those coming from Samsung, Google and Amazon.

A new design

Per earlier reports, Apple will remove or at least reduce the length of the protruding stem that made the AirPods and AirPods Pro so distinguishable, even from a distance. The new audio accessory will also feature a more rounded body like its rivals. It remains to be seen how the Cupertino tech giant will make it look uniquely “AirPods” and a lot less “Galaxy Buds Pro.”

A potential release window

A new report indicates that the new AirPods Pro will be arriving soon – perhaps in a few months’ time. The claim comes from industry sources who spoke with Taiwanese news outlet Digitimes (via MacWorld).

According to Digitimes, Taiwanese company Winbond Electronics Corporation, or simply Winbond, is “expected” to be one of the NOR flash suppliers for Apple’s next-gen AirPods Pro, which is “slated for release later in the first half of this year.”

An earlier report from Japanese blog Macotakara also claimed that the new AirPods Pro will be released in April 2021 “at the same time as the iPhone SE (3rd generation).”

The report, which cited “Chinese suppliers” as its source, said the AirPods Pro charging case will “have a new design.” It will still be 21 millimeters thick but will be 46 millimeters tall and 54 millimeters wide. This could result to longer battery life, at least for the charging case.

Other unknowns

As of now, not much is known about the new device. It’s currently unclear what improvements or new features Apple added into the next-gen audio accessory.

What can be expected right now is that it will still feature Active Noise Cancellation — which is what differentiated the first-gen AirPods Pro from the regular AirPods —Transparency mode and other existing features like Siri.
