LG has filed a patent infringement case against Sony and have asked the US International Trade Commission (ITC) to ban sales of PS3s and Sony Bravia TVs. LG has brought in eight patent violations against Sony, according to newswires report.

LG alleges that Sony's high-definition Bravia TVs infringe four patents, while products with Blu-ray players including PS3 infringe four others, This is seen as retaliation by trade analysts to Sony’s, a Japan based electronic giant, seven cases of patent infringement against their Korean rivals LG for cell phones in December. They also filed a civil lawsuit against LG for their Blu-ray players .

The ITC may not be able to impose any financial fines but any of the allegation turn true then both sides will suffer a ban on imports and sale of their products in the US.

According to the suit, the problems with the PS3 are in how it handles multiple data streams and reproduces data from read-only sources. as well as a system to reproduce data that's stored on a read-only device.

Sony has revealed that PS3 sales stood at 47.9 million units as of December 31, 2010.

Samsung is the leader in TV manufacturing with LG coming in second and Sony third.
