More than a million people have applied for tickets to London 2012 Olympic organizer to watch the men’s 100 meters final.

The stadium has 80, 000 seats but only 40, 000 are available to the public, the rest of the seats are taken up by sponsors, VIPs and the media.

With a total of 6.6 million tickets available about 1.8 million people applied with more than 20 million tickets application to watch the event.

The organizing committee Locog told BBC on Friday that, it would not release figures on ticket requests until next month.

Competition is likely to feature Jamaican sprinter and reigning Olympic champion Usain Bolt.

Applicants will be informed by June 24 whether they have been allotted the tickets -- although the money for the tickets will be taken out of their bank accounts this month.

Olympics organizers are looking forward to make £500m from ticket sales. The price ranges from £20 to £725 for the 100 meters final and £2,012 for the opening ceremony on July 27, 2012.
