Obama on his tour to England said he would make the trip to Missouri to "talk with folks who've been affected, to talk to local officials about our response effort and hopefully to pray with folks and give them whatever assurance and comfort I can that the entire country is going to be behind them."

The news about the tornado has sent shockwaves through Hollywood and Bieber was among the first to send his sympathies to Joplin residents, writing in a post on micro-blogging site Twitter: "Just heard about the devastation in Missouri. My heart goes out to everyone there and their families. My prayers are with you."

Perry also wrote about the tragedy and urged fans to donate to the Red Cross relief efforts stating, "Please Text Redcross to 90999 to donate $10 to Joplin Relief, or directly call them at 314 969 8655. Pray for Joplin."

"God bless everyone in Joplin... My prayers are with you," Longoria posted.
