Storm Hits Chicago: Thousands Out of Power Amid Tornado Warnings [PHOTO]

Severe weather in Chicago on Tuesday evening, including tornado warnings, have prompted a stoppage in train operation and thousands of households were cut off from electricity.

The National Weather Service issued the warnings for several counties including DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake and Will, according to the Naperville Sun.

Northeast Illinois commuter rail system, Metra, also reported delays and stops in operation.

Fallen trees caused by strong winds have stopped the inbound train to from Elgin to Chicago as well.

Also around 10,000 Commonwealth Edison customers were without power at 8:30pm EST.

Chicago's airports have cancelled more than 300 flights at O'Hare Airport and also all flights have been delayed for at least an hour, the Sun reported, citing the Department of Aviation.
