Japan's Food Safety Commission determined cloned cows and pigs can be used for food without any risk, the agency said Monday, Bloomberg reported.
The Food and Safety commission will decide whether to recommend the food's safety to the government. If the government gives its approval, the market for cloned animals would be open for companies abroad since Japan is a top importer of beef, the source reports.
In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration a health regulator, approved the use of cloned food early 2008.
