Palin's farewell speech (Full transcript)

27 July 2009 @ 11:09 am ET

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin stepped down from her position on Sunday at 3p.m. local time and delivered a farewell speech, the following is her speech full transcript:

"What an absolutely beautiful day it is, and it is my honor to speak to all Alaskans, to our Alaskan family this last time as your governor. And it is always great to be in Fairbanks. The rugged rugged hardy people that live up here and some of the most patriotic people whom you will ever know live here, and one thing that you are known for is your steadfast support of our military community up here and I thank you for that and thank you United States military for protecting the greatest nation on Earth. Together we stand.

And getting up here I say it is the best road trip in America soaring through nature's finest show. Denali, the great one, soaring under the midnight sun. And then the extremes. In the winter time it's the frozen road that is competing with the view of ice fogged frigid beauty, the cold though, doesn't it split the Cheechakos from the Sourdoughs?

And then in the summertime such extreme summertime about a hundred and fifty degrees hotter than just some months ago, than just some months from now, with fireweed blooming along the frost heaves and merciless rivers that are rushing and carving and reminding us that here, Mother Nature wins. It is as throughout all Alaska that big wild good life teeming along the road that is north to the future.

That is what we get to see every day. Now what the rest of America gets to see along with us is in this last frontier there is hope and opportunity and there is country pride.

And it is our men and women in uniform securing it, and we are facing tough challenges in America with some seeming to just be Hell bent maybe on tearing down our nation, perpetuating some pessimism, and suggesting American apologetics, suggesting perhaps that our best days were yesterdays.

But as other people have asked, "How can that pessimism be, when proof of our greatness, our pride today is that we produce the great proud volunteers who sacrifice everything for country?" Now this week alone, Sean Parnell and I we're on the, um, on Ft. Rich the base there, the army chapel, and we heard the last roll call, and the sounding of Taps for three very brave, very young Alaskan soldiers who just gave their all for all of us. Together we do stand with gratitude for our troops who protect all of our cherished freedoms, including our freedom of speech which, par for the course, I'm going to exercise.

And first, some straight talk for some, just some in the media because another right protected for all of us is freedom of the press, and you all have such important jobs reporting facts and informing the electorate, and exerting power to influence. You represent what could and should be a respected honest profession that could and should be the cornerstone of our democracy.

Democracy depends on you, and that is why, that's why our troops are willing to die for you. So, how 'bout in honor of the American soldier, ya quite makin' things up. And don't underestimate the wisdom of the people, and one other thing for the media, our new governor has a very nice family too, so leave his kids alone.

OK, today is a beautiful day and today as we swear in Sean Parnell, no one will be happier than I to witness by God's grace Alaskans with strength of character advancing our beloved state. Sean has that. Craig Campbell has that. I remember on that December day, we took the oath to uphold our state constitution, and it was written right here in Fairbanks by very wise pioneers.

We shared the vision for government that they ground in that document. Our founders wrote "all political power is inherent in the people. All government originates with the people. It's founded upon their will only and it's instituted for the good of the people as a whole." Their remarkably succinct words guided us in all of our efforts in serving you and putting you first, and we have done our best to fulfill promises that I made on Alaska Day, 2005, when I first asked for the honor of serving you.

Remember then, our state so desired and so deserved ethics reform. We promised it, and now it is the law. Ironically, it needs additional reform to stop blatant abuse from partisan operatives, and I hope the lawmakers will continue that reform. We promised that you would finally see a fair return on your Alaskan owned natural resources so we build a new oil and gas appraisal system, an is an equitable formula to usher in a new era of competition and transparency and protection for Alaskans and the producers.

ACES incentivizes new exploration and it's the exploration that is our future. It opens up oil basins and it ensures that the people will never be taken advantage of again. Don't forget Alaskans you are the resource owners per our constitution and that's why for instance last year when oil prices soared and state coffers swelled, but you were smacked with high energy prices, we sent you the energy rebate. See, it's your money and I've always believed that you know how to better spend it than government can spend it.

I promised that we would protect this beautiful environment while safely and ethically developing resources, and we did. We built the Petroleum Oversight Office and a sub-cabinet to study climate conditions. And I promised I'd govern with fiscal restraint, so to not immorally burden futre generations. And we did...we slowed the rate of government growth and I vetoed hundreds of millions of dollars of excess and wtih lawmakers we saved billions for the future.

I promsed that we'd lead the charge to forward funding education, and hold schools accountable, and improve opportunities for special needs students and elevate vo-tech training and we paid down pension debt.

I promised that we would manage our fish and wildlife for abundance, and that we would defend the constitution, and we have, though outside special interest groups they still just don't get it on this one. Let me tell you, Alaskans really need to stick together on this with new leadership in this area especially, encouraging new leadership... got to stiffen your spine to do what's right for Alaska when the pressure mounts, because you're going to see anti-hunting, anti-second amendment circuses from Hollywood and here's how they do it.

They use these delicate, tiny, very talented celebrity starlets, they use Alaska as a fundraising tool for their anti-second amendment causes. Stand strong, and remind them patriots will protect our guaranteed, individual right to bear arms, and by the way, Hollywood needs to know, we eat, therefore we hunt.

I promised energy solutions and we have, we have a plan calling for 50% of our electricity generated by renewable resources and we can now insist that those who hold the leases to develop our resources that they do so now on Alaska's terms. So now finally after decades of just talk, finally we're seeing oil and gas drilling up there at Point Thompson.

And I promised that we would get a natural gas pipeline underway and we did. Since I was a little kid growing up here, I remember the discussions, especially the political discussions just talking about and hoping for and dreaming of commercializing our clean, abundant, needed natural gas.

Our gas line inducement act, AGIA, that was the game-changer and this is thanks to our outstanding gas line team, and the legislature adopting this law, 58-1. They knew, they know AGIA is the vehicle to drive this monumental energy project and bring everyone to the table, this bipartisan victory, it came from Alaskans working together with free market private sector principles, and now we are on the road to the largest private-sector energy project in the history of America. It is for Alaska's future, it is for America's energy independence and it will make us a more peaceful, prosperous and secure nation.

I want to see Trig's birth certificate, her itinerary for the day she "flew 18 hours in labor with a high-risk premature child) , and I want to see Todd's voter registration card for EVERY year prior to 2008. I think she and her husband are closet traitors to the U.S. and I believe with all my heart that she's lying ...in some way...about Trig. I also would like to see her transcripts from her 5 colleges. Anyway the birthers can add that to their list of MUST HAVES from Obama? I'll jump on their bandwagon, if they'll jump on mine!

I've never heard so much double talk in my life
4.
Jul 27, 2009 6:23pm

Parsing Sarah-speak is always difficult, but she really stumped me with the admonishment to the media to stop making up stories about the military. I don't understand what she's referring to--is there some story that has broken recently about the military that Republicans think is untrue?

Mary, She is not a traitor as she has served her country as a Governor and has advanced Alaska leaps and bounds since taking office. She has fought corruption and helped Alaska become more energy efficient and more environmentally friendly at the same time. What you are doing to bring her down is creating fallacious arguments in an attempt to discredit her and her family when you cannot discredit the work she has done and the visions she has. Smaller government and trying to reduce dependence on foreign energies are both things this country needs during todays generation and moving forward into the future. These are also two things that current administration is against or preventing. I am sure people, more credible than you, who share your political views as well, have been convinced through evidence (what you seriously lack) that Trig is her son. And, hypothetically speaking, even if it wasn't I would love to know how this would affect her ability to do her job and lead Alaska and our country into a better tomorrow? And vicki, what is the double talk you are speaking of? Or is this another baseless attack on a great woman that has become so common by our citizens and by our biased media? I would bet that it is the latter. Thank you to Sarah Palin and best of luck to her in the future. Hopefully we will see her down the road, bringing the real change this country needs. God bless America.

Mary, you and the birthers (and the truthers) deserve each other. Go and share your bitterness, vile hatreds, and irrational beliefs with each other, and spare the rest of us. The venom spewed against this fine woman reminds me of the contempt and vitriol h

haha she doesn't make any sense, this is gibberish, she honestly just says words "And then in the summertime such extreme summertime about a hundred and fifty degrees hotter than just some months ago, than just some months from now, with fireweed blooming along the frost heaves and merciless rivers that are rushing and carving and reminding us that here, Mother Nature wins. It is as throughout all Alaska that big wild good life teeming along the road that is north to the future."

Mary, Do you have any idea what the statistics are for a 17-year-old girl to bear a Down Syndrome child? Read on... "Down syndrome (trisomy 21) is the most commonly recognized genetic cause of mental retardation. The risk of trisomy 21 is directly related to maternal age. The incidence of fetal trisomies is directly related to maternal age. The risk of having a child with Down syndrome increases in a gradual, linear fashion until about age 30 and increases exponentially thereafter. The risk of having a child with Down syndrome is 1/1,300 for a 25-year-old woman; at age 35, the risk increases to 1/365. At age 45, the risk of a having a child with Down syndrome increases to 1/30, the age of Sarah Palin. So you see, Mary, Bristol's age isn't even on the charts. Educate yourself before showing your ignorance. You can find more at http://www.aafp.org/afp/20000815/825.html

Who gives a flying toss? There has to be more relevant issues to argue about than this...or to report on, for that matter...

Jul 28, 2009 11:26am

I just find it fascinating the polarizing effect this woman has. Each person who either supports her (Anthony) or attacks her (Mary) does it with such vigour and pride. I'm not sure if that is what her plan is but I have to admit that in a world where inertia seems to be the rule rather than the exception, it's wonderful to see people voicing true beliefs and opinons, not just gripes and backtalk. I've used my own form of "Sarah speak" in newspaper opinions and other avenues in the past. The whole point is to give people no true ideology to follow so that they have no choice but to look inside and find what they truly believe and then express it. While it may not bring us all together, it will at least keep us all true to ourselves and maybe, to each other. So, even if she didn't intend it, kudos to Sarah.

Jul 28, 2009 11:32am

Try as she might, she'll fade into the background, and her political ambitions will fall short. She's already exposed herself as a right-wing, uneducated...ahem...politician...with thinking Africa is a country, claiming to be able to see Russia from Alaska, not being able to answer interview questions and inciting and feeding the fear of voters during the presidential campaign. She did everything but come out and say that she thought Obama was a terrorist, and when people shouted out things like "Kill him!," she said nothing. She is an embarrassment to the GOP.
14.
Jul 28, 2009 2:05pm

Palin's rise and fall is astonishing primarily because the GOP allowed her to appear on their behalf in *any* capacity. It's rare for an elected official at her level to reveal ignorance and other limitations so clearly, and so relentlessly. If she were less loony, it would be frightening. Luckily, she won't ever be taken seriously again, so her career is over before she was able to do much real damage. Except, I suppose, to the GOP itself...
15.
Jul 28, 2009 2:46pm

Anthony - Sarah Palin may be "great" in your estimation, but her speeches are incoherent messes. Perhaps that's what prompted Vicki's "double-speak" comment. She almost always speaks in sweeping generalizations and never in specifics, causing me to wonder if she can understand anything in depth.
16.
Jul 28, 2009 3:17pm

If this speech were a freshman essay, it would earn an F at most colleges and universities. What a mess!
17.
Jul 28, 2009 3:50pm

Perhaps other Republican politicians could follow her fine example and also resign to pursue the public good in alternative ways. They could start companies to employ Americans or just announce that they are emulating John Galt and refusing to lend their skills to such a corrupt exercise as government. This could really be the start of something excellent.
18.
Jul 28, 2009 3:56pm

sarah palin did what was best for herself and her family , she tried of the media reporting false rumors about herself and her family. now she can live a normal life away from the media. and start to write her book and tell what real went on during the campaign ing of last year . she would have made a good vice- president good luck in the future sarah.

The children that I teach in junior high write and speak more coherently than she does. How can she be trusted with domestic and foreign policy decisions when she cannot master the basic fundamentals of her native language.
20.
Jul 28, 2009 5:09pm

She'll get what she deserves (and you can take that however you like).
21.
Jul 28, 2009 5:46pm

They don't have speech writers in Alaska?
22.
Jul 28, 2009 8:39pm

This woman isn't capable of delivering a single grammatically correct and coherent sentence. That she holds a BA in Journalism simply leaves me agog.

Jul 28, 2009 10:19pm

I have to agree that it seems that she wrote this speech herself and that she could use a professional speechwriter. Though it is oddly refreshing to have a politician at this level to actually write their own speech (it certainly clearly shows us their real capabilities). We used to have statesman who were capable of this -- do any exist in this age? I have heard that Obama never gives any speech no matter how minor and short without using a teleprompter (and he certainly uses very talented speechwriters for everything he utters) -- that makes me wonder what we would get if he spoke without layers and layers of professional writer polish on all he says (would we even recognize him?).
28.
Jul 28, 2009 10:19pm

What difference would it make where Obama was born? His mother was always a US citizen. Children of US citizens are automatically entitled to US citizenhip, no matter where they were born in this world. They have the same right to call themselves American as all of those "birthers" who are trying to stir up trouble where none ever existed. Get over it.
29.
Jul 28, 2009 10:43pm

I think that this is Sarah Palin doing an " Obama" style speech. Don't you remember everyone asking, "but what does he mean?".
30.
Jul 28, 2009 11:12pm

Being eloquent is a skill few have. Our education system has shorted the last two generations on that skill. Consider the vocabulary of the typical 8th grader 50 years ago versus now. There are marked losses on this metric in recent history. Aside from the words or lack of words, it will be the Alaskan people who can better judge the performance and impact of this public servant. By comparison there are many of us in the lower 48 states who will be judging the impact of those with fine eloquent speech used to assuage and assure who have passed on to the next generations the biggest fiscal debts of history and incapacitated the ability to produce wealth (jobs) by strangling incentive. You can choose "words". I would choose impact. Let's hear from Alaskans on this public servant.
31.

It's official....Anthony and those like him are nuttier than "Professor" Palin!!!!!!!! Look............nice lady, good citizen, patriot and, obviously, flawed like the rest of us. More importantly, like most of us, should never be allowed anywhere near the White House!!!!!! Unless it's some snow covered igloo in Alaska! Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, this is true about most White House occupants, including the current one. Hey Alan, when's the last time you heard Alaskans complain about ANYTHING!?! Anyone "living" in Alaska isn't prone to complaining. I suspect a well publicized "Lobotomy" would be entertainment in the real frozen tundra.

Listening to and reading about the trashing of Gov. Sarah Palin is frustrating and upsetting. The venom spewed by those who hate her and revile her is disgusting. Also, no other political figure's family has been attacked so viciously by the media. I remember the grace of Laura Bush when she came to the defense of Michelle Obama during the campaign. But I have not seen that kind of decency coming from the Left in the case of Sarah Palin. Double Standard??? You bet. Politics has always been a blood sport, but generally the family members, most especially children, were not considered targets. Not so with the Palin family. The insults, snide comments and downright filthy jokes have brought civility to an all-time low. I cannot imagine how Gov. Palin and her family have dealt with the creeps and low-lifes in the media and kept their cool. So I say, "Gov. Palin, you are one classy lady!"

America, let this farewell speech of Mrs. Palin serve as a warning - you must, simply MUST drill into your children the importance of a good education and the truth in the old saying, "It is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt." Sarah Palin has left no doubt with regards to her foolishness, her arrogance and certainly her ignorance. OMG if this is the best the Republican Party has to offer they are in worse trouble than we ever imagined. Good grief.
37.
Jul 29, 2009 4:37am

I'm encouraged by the ratio of realists to closed-minded Palinites in this forum. It gives me hope for our country's future to see so many capable of navigating through Sarah's deceptively perilous word labyrinths... Sarah's not all bad, though. In her defense, she'd honestly be kinda hot, if she could just shut her trap for a second.
38.
Jul 29, 2009 8:13am

Huckabee's ex campaign manager defended this mess of a speech by saying it was her attempt to "reinvent" herself. Into what, an even bigger idiot? The fact that an actor or comedienne can get belly laughs just by repeating her own actual words with a straight face shows you something in and of itself... Are so many blinded by the fact that she is an attractive woman that they really don't hear what she is (or isn't saying)? And about her looks... get the troweled on makepu off her face and come her hair out and I don't think people would be commenting on how hot she is... I see better at the supermarket. She is an EMBARRASSMENT to ALL women and girls who aspire to public office.

@Alan Williams July 28th 2009 yes, many Alaskans complain about her. Many of us are angry that she has quit half way through her term, but are relieved that she's moving on as she has proven to be only partially effective at governing our state.
41.
Jul 29, 2009 10:51am

She'll be on Fox soon with all the other republican nut jobs and has-beens.
42.
Jul 29, 2009 12:14pm

I find it quite funny when Republicans accuse Democrats by sneering the word "liberal" as an insult. Then go on to state that liberals stereotype and have nothing of value to add when faced with "facts". When a liberal does counter with "facts", it is equally ignored and silence ensues from many Republicans. Pot calling the kettle black -- on both sides. Sadly, Palin just represents the deeply entrenched polarization that exists in America. At times, it feels the country's enemy is not from the outside, but it will destroy itself from the inside because both sides do not hear each other all. Where is the common ground from both sides of most of the contentious debates?
43.
Jul 29, 2009 1:08pm

It just amazes me how we vote with our blinders on. Republican or Democrate Libral or Concervative you have to call a spade a spade. If she was my sons School Teacher i would say well at least its only one subject and one year ill muddel through it. But to concider her for the VP of our great country,is almost comical if not so painfull to watch and wonder what other countries think of us. What should and has kept me up at night is the fact what if she had won WOW not that is scarry !
44.

Sarah Palin's most important act as Governor of Alaska? Why, it must be her global exoneration of blondes.
49.
Jul 29, 2009 6:33pm

That was incoherent. The only line from the speech that will be remembered is "So, how 'bout in honor of the American soldier, ya quite makin' things up." Like the American solder is supposed to care about her spat with the media. She's no longer Everywoman. She's the arrogant, entitled, self-centered jerk in Everywoman's office
50.
Jul 29, 2009 7:30pm

I've never attacked her family, only her. I thought it was funny that Bristol still fought for abstinence, despite the fact that she didn't practice it(This is different from advice from a recovered drug addict, who will tell you what they wish they had known and/or done when confronted with that first joint, or pill or what have you.) I thought her children's names were odd and funny, but I never attacked the child for their name, which they had no choice over. I think that the fact that she is so attackable is a testament to her incompetence. Obama was attacked for his race, his birthplace (Hawaii, by the way, not Kenya.), and his father, whom he barely knew, and he continued to persevere, and look where he is now. Palin couldn't take the heat, the scrutiny, and the fact that nearly everything she said was wrong, a lie, or just plain incoherent, such as this speech. Glad she quit? You betcha.
51.
Jul 29, 2009 7:34pm

And to respond to Kelly, I will not be judged by God because I feel there is no God and that death is simply my corpse resting in a wooden box in the ground for eternity. Your God cannot judge those who do not believe in him, because if we do not believe, are we not destined for Hell anyway? I welcome hell because it does not exist, and if it does than you can take comfort in my supposed eternal damnation. I always wanted to vacation somewhere warm. On another note, if you practice sodomy, you go to Hell. If you go to Hell, you are sodomized. So why is Hell such a bad place? Think about it. The true punishment would be Heaven, where sodomy is not allowed...hmmm...
52.
Jul 29, 2009 8:52pm

Palin may actually be legitimately passionate about some causes, but she is incapable of articulating her thoughts so only those predisposed to worship her are willing to support her vagaries. That doesn't make her a bad person, though. She is, however, a poor politician. She misused her office for personal gain and to intimidate her ex-brother in law. Ah, how I would love to collect per diems for living in my own home and take my kids on tax-payer-financed "business trips." I sum things up thusly: she used her kids as props, then got mad when the press used the kids as news; she couldn't string coherent thoughts together in national interviews, then scolded folks for reporting it; she bailed on Ted Stevens when things looked bad, then opined that a new election should be held when he was cleared; her words during campaign rallies elicited treasonous shouts from her audience and she never once told them to stop; she was sworn in to serve as the Gov of Alaska for 4 years and didn't complete 3 before quitting and moving on to a "higher calling."

Matt have you ever been in Alaska? I doubt you have because if you had been there you would know what Palin is talking about with the temperture, futhermore, she is not addressing the lower 48, she is not our governor unless the rest of you live in Alaska,... The Alaskans know what she is referring to and she is right it is a state with little government involovement and everything she said about the government involvement is true....Alaska has little involvement with the government -she does back up her statement "let government step aside give the power back to the people"(not actually wording but you get the point) when she said it during the campaign speech regarding the lower 48- our lives would be better in the lower 48 if we had that policy that she has. Alaska is like that-period! You guys have all been manipultate by the press and you need to wake up and do a little bit of critical thinking-YES THINK ABOUT WHAT COMES OUT OF YOUR MOUTHS!!! GOD GAVE YOU ALL A BRAIN TO USE SO USE IT AND DON'T RELY ON SOMEONE ELSE TO DO THE THINKING FOR YOU-WAKE UP!!!! You all who speak meanly about Palin need to do some homework! I know I have lived in Alaska so shut your mouths and think before you speak!!!!!

Where the Hell is Alaska?!?

Jul 30, 2009 9:48pm

It's amusing that the most agressive opposition to Palin comes from women. Not one of you will be as successful, healthy, attractive and powerful as her (mid-40's) even in the prime of your lives. Predictable female jealousy is so unbecoming. Her speech, when seen in writing, is not the best. But then again, Obama's written speeches, littered with ums, ahs, you knows and other unrelated interjections and serious gaffes appear the same and in some cases worse. My favorites include: 1) 57 states. Interestingly, most children in 3rd grade know the correct number of states. Even more interestingly, there are 57 in the islamic conference. 2) Thanking the fallen heros on Memorial Day - "On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong."-Obama May 2008. 3) Hailing Mexican Independence Day by calling it "Cinco de Cuatro" 4) Showing solidarity with the victims of tornados in Kansas- ALL 10,000 OF THEM LAST YEAR. 5) Becoming emotionally involved in the recent Gates arrest as if it were a school yard taunt by stating the Cambridge police officers acted "stupidly" when a white, Latino and black officer, each present at the scene with quite a few other witnesses to corroborate the actions of the officer. But that's not surprising considering his affiliation with "reverend" wrights perpetuation of racism and unfortunate, wasteful, misdirected minority anger. 6) Calling the entire nation of medical professionals stupid and disconnected. Yes, because governement has done so well with Medicare. You know, I'll take lofty, creative speeches from the heart any old day- particularly those that profess support for the men and women who give us the right to vocalize our opinions without fear of governement censor or, worse yet, physical retaliation including death. The only Manchurian candidate is the islamic, half-wit (I meant half-white) man in the oval office today who approves of a democratic health care plan that refers to the handicapped as "retards." He's a real class act. God bless the great state of Alaska for remaining strong. And, yes, I suspect that the successful men and women of the USA will begin to resign themselves to quiet lives where they worry about no one but themsleves. Take your advancements with you- this society of self-centered, self-entitled, lazy people with their hands out for everything don't deserve the benefits you provide. And, they certainly do not deserve to take your hard earned money.

Mary, you're the penultimate cliche woman; jealous of any female hotter than you. I saw your avatar, lay off the twinkies and maybe you'll find a husband.

I'm so glad you guys loved my speech, carved like the lightning of the Chugach range, angry in it's sugariness, yet so supple you can fold it into a sasquatch. Beatnik and beautiful, speechy and sour. Oh, how the uphill banana doth suffer my Alaska!

Ha! This stupid chick is dumber than my negro boss! Whoops.
63.
Jul 30, 2009 10:28pm

Dearest dagtag, How gracefully you opined "Predictable... jealousy is so unbecoming" immediately after stating "Not one of you will be as successful, healthy, attractive and powerful as her (mid-40's) even in the prime of your lives." Do you listen to yourself? And while that's sure a whole bunch o' hatred you're packin' in those words of yours, have you perhaps noticed that this discourse is devoted to Sarah Palin, not Barack Obama? Find some other forum to spread your venom in - you're off-topic in this one.

"Not one of you will be as successful, healthy, attractive and powerful as her (mid-40's) even in the prime of your lives." I quit my job once, and my Tourettes causes my eye to wink uncontrollably when I speak incoherently...

It's not legal for a white woman to give a speech. Only negroes and injuns are allowed to speak their minds. Gotta go, the girl from Lilo and Stitch is looking for a stunt double.

Palin and most of the people on here who say the media took cheap shots at her and her family are mistaking comedians for news reporters. That is probably because most of these people watch Fox News and think it is reporting as well

What the hell did I just read?

Jul 31, 2009 3:31am

Anthony Trammello - I'll argue the point for you. It is pretty damn bad when her own party tries to distance itself from her. She is nice looking, I'll admit. That is not a qualification for govenor or vice president. George Bush was enough of an embarrassment to this great nation, and I believe she is even dumber than he is. She should not blame the media for letting the American people know that she was hollow in the head. She has air between her eyes and nothing else, no brain. She may have won the election if she had never spoken. She opened her mouth one time too many.

I'm affixing my homemade bumper stickers to my cars this morning, which read: nominate P A L I N in 2012! If she is the Republican candidate in the next presidential election, she will be the final nail in the GOP's coffin. . .

If you notice the only one's making comments are closed minded racists blacks who's only agenda is to ensure that all white people are exterminated, then we have the big nosed jews who own and operate the media they like nothing better then to have the christians put to death as they did to their own people when they financed hitlers war, and if you dig further back to the slave days you will find that the bankers who financed slavery were jews. and the largest percentage of slave owners were democrats. So quit spilling propaganda and do your home work. You have no idea what is actually happening in this country, If you really want to kknow who the president of the United States is Contact Mr George Soros and his team they will gladly tell you you are insignificant and a peon. With this said there are people out their like Mr's Palin who do care about this country and your lazy asses, I for one feel that a major catastrophe is going to happen because ignorant liberals are to lazy to find out the truth about what tearing this country apart and pissing the good people of this country off, I also forsee bad things happening to journalists and news medias who spread lies and try to deceive the people of this country for their own il gotten gain.

I'm an editor and I don't think I could edit this thing! I read the first paragraph and thought, well she obviously doesn't have a speech writer. Too funny.

Jul 31, 2009 10:19am

It's amazing! So many of you hated Sarah Palin so much. The more you say, write negative things about her the more she becomes popular; negative or positive comments, that is still publicity. The more you attack her the more people becomes curious. I don't know her but now I want to know more about her and there are other people like me out there. We don't just listen and read we do research. I'm just one of the silent majority.
75.
Jul 31, 2009 11:04am

She's just as much an asshole now as she was during the election!
76.
Jul 31, 2009 11:38am

She needs to go away and disappear. I am amazed why she is still around and why the republicans think she have some thing to offer.

Jul 31, 2009 1:32pm

Speech synopsis: As a national figure in the prominent spotlight, she has become a lame duck, with all the media, this being her first term in office. It is sad sad trying times like these that make us remember - not too long ago - of the days of September 11th - the horror, shock - and it is times like this that remind us of our freedom! Our nation is truly the greatest nation because of the brave men and women that sacrifice everything, so go away LIBERAL media! Soon, she will be a private citizen and you betcha Foxy News will be having all the exclusives! *wink* *wave*
79.
Jul 31, 2009 1:36pm

I will stop hating Sarah as soon as she goes away. (Though I fear she won't.) This country just barely survived eight years of an incompetent ideologue. We do not need another likable moron President who will leave things in the hands of truly evil people the likes of Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove and Delay. God bless America... and God help us.
80.
Jul 31, 2009 1:55pm

What did the media make up? What does the American soldier have to do wit it? She is the one who put her kids on stage as props. She is the one who had shockingly incoherent interviews on the national news.
81.
Jul 31, 2009 1:57pm

She also said we may have to go war with Russia! She said that the VP runs the senate!
82.
Jul 31, 2009 3:09pm

Wow, Datag may be as dumb and angry as Sarah. Here is the dea, Daytag, and the facists in the, I mean OF THE republican party know this fact but won't tell you. If we do not curb health care costs in this country it will bankrupt the economy. The longer we wait the worse it becomes. The nazis at Fox point to Canada and England as failures of socialized medicine, but what about, Sweden, Denmark Germany and many others who provide quality health care for all of their citizens and give their industries a better competitive position not having to build a strategy around this cost. (It is the largest expenditure of General Motors - you do the math).
83.

Jul 31, 2009 4:10pm

Dawn, you're making things up. It was Tina Fey of SNL was acting as Palin and said she could see Russion from her front porch or whatever. You take something a comedian says in mockery of a republican as something the republican said. You are either ignorant or stupid. The Left hates Palin because she is effective and could do some real damage to their hold on power. The McRino's in the GOP don't like her for the same reason. She is popular with the people because she is one of us, and is not one of those establishment-type stuffed shirts(bras) with their noses in the air and their hands in everyone's pockets. "Democracy depends on you." Big-Government types like McRino and Obama don't really like democracy, they like to have the power for themselves. If you believe in individual freedom and government of the people, then you should support Palin and anyone else who believes as she does. If your for government dependency - support the Dems or the RINOs.
86.
Jul 31, 2009 4:47pm

Talk about being either ignorant or stupid! Vince, Tina Fey didn't make up Sarah Palin's quote about Russia - you could not possibly be more wrong. Before you start calling other people ignorant or stupid you should do a little research. When you make such boldly incorrect statements you really reveal your ignorance and stupidity. If you don't know how to do the research, Google the words "Palin" and "Russia" together and see what you get. She said it numerous times, she went on TV trying to defend it, and to call other people ignorant or stupid when you clearly don't know the facts clearly shows the rest of us where your head is at.
87.
Jul 31, 2009 4:59pm

Vince - pull your head out of your ass and come up for some air! You're wrong about the Russia statement. Moreover, what is Palin effective at? Quitting?! The only thing Sarah Palin may be effective at is making George W. Bush look smart by comparison.
88.
Jul 31, 2009 5:01pm

Sarah Palin put her hand on a Bible and swore to be Alaska's Governor for four years, yet she quit with 16 months left in her term. A solemn oath taken with her hand upon a Bible meant absolutely nothing to her. You are proud of this woman?
89.
Jul 31, 2009 5:11pm

@ 10.Caroline Jul 28, 2009 8:07am: I am not a birth-conspiracist (Palin or Obama. And FYI, McCain was not born *in* the US.). I am, however, someone who knowingly gave birth to a child with T21. The fact that Bristol's age is "not on the charts" for incidence of T21 birth is irrelevant. It depends on how the charts were constructed, and what data was chosen to show. *80%* of T21 births are to mothers under age 35, b/c they have a higher birth rate as a group. That does not mean that a teenager will not give birth to a baby with T21. When your rate is 1:____, whether the "___" is 2000 or 40, none of those odds matter unless you are the "1" - which there is for *every* maternal age, not just age 25 or 35 and up. I found various charts with different beginning ages. How ignorant, Caroline, to chide someone else, while basically saying that a teenage is incapable of birthing a baby with T21. When I worked in the disability field, I was shocked by the numbers of young, very young, mothers to babies with T21 - kind of made me wonder if there wasn't some elevated rate for T21 for teenagers. (Not that there is, just that I noted a significant number of such in my office.) http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/35/3/463 Cheers, Paula

I have only a few things to say about Sarah Palin, She needs to take another year or two of college, specifically, grammar, speech writing, politics, world geography and american history. As far as her problems with the media, What did she expect when she said yes to being a candidate for Vice President of the United States of America, has she been in hibernation with the polarbears the last few elections, crucification is the norm, did she really expect it to be different for her and her family? So, she was called some names, made fun of and things were said about here that weren't true, well, she who casts the first stone..... Remember the campaign, I suppose everything she said about the President was not some of the same. I won't even get into the hypocrisy. Lets, face it, she just does not have the experience, the backbone and the education to ever become a definitive candidate for high office. Sorrry Sarah.

Whaaaat? I think she was having a stroke. Poor little half-wit. Is there a doctor in the house?
92.
Aug 1, 2009 4:20pm

Sorry, but she lost me after about the third paragraph with the extreme temperatures and rivers rushing. I felt like I was back in English class trying to decipher poetry from the "greats' of English Lit. I think it would have been better if she had stuck to a three minute speech with a thank you and here's your next governor. And maybe a plug about her white house bit in 2012?
93.
Aug 1, 2009 4:56pm

Remember America. Palin was McCain's choice for a running mate. What does that say about the GOP?
94.
Aug 1, 2009 8:07pm

HA HA HA!!! This is the best laugh I've had in a good while. As for Sarah's leadership potential, we've already seen what happens to our country under the leadership of someone who doesn't know how to speak proper English.
95.
Aug 2, 2009 2:25pm

It mystifies me that she tries to make a case for quitting because she is a lame duck. So, Sean Parnell should be a lame duck as well as he only has 18 months to serve. She is such a liar and fraud. She is the one who described her daughter's-out-of-wedlock pregnancy by saying, "My daughter and her fiance are starting a family."
96.
Aug 2, 2009 5:53pm

You who are so eager to trash others, are just hateful people. You don't even care who they are talking about you just want to jump on the bandwagon to trash someone, what are you teaching your children. I just hope to God that none of you are ever anywhere near a child to instill all that anger and hate into another generation. You can talk about people and situations without anger and hate and I hope that your stupidity dies with you.
97.
Aug 2, 2009 6:56pm

Did you read what you wrote? Pretty angry, pretty hateful... Can't you talk about people and situations without all of that anger and hatred?
98.
Aug 2, 2009 9:13pm

Not only did Sarah announce "My daughter and her fiance are starting a family" when the kids were not yet engaged, she then made public spectacles out of them -- using her family as props for her political ends. I felt so sorry for Levi at the events he was forced to attend - you could see he was visibly uncomfortable and didn't want to be there. He later admitted he had been "pressured to attend" the RNC and other events. Speaking of pressure from Sarah to put on a pretty picture, how about the way that Bristol told Fox News that abstinence for teens is "not realistic at all" then went on to become a spokeswoman for abstinence. She is the model spokesperson for the utter failure of abstinence, yet there she is being a mouthpiece for her mother's unworkable policies. Stay classy ladies!

..." It can't make you happy or healthy or wealthy or wise. What can? It is the wisdom of the people and our families and our small businesses, and industrious individuals, and it is God's grace, helping those who help themselves, and then this allows that very generous voluntary hand up that we're known for, enthusiastically providing those who need it." - I feel that this should be the center of the Republican Party. This is what America should stand for and what I would like to hear from our next leader. We need to help those help themselves. I am tired of this "get rich quick" society. And "Obama is going to get me mine" mentallity. When Obama was elected, every one of my students thought that they were going to be "taken care of". We need to take back our country and teach everyone that if they want something they have to WORK FOR IT.

Aug 4, 2009 9:56pm

Hadn't read this before...wasted 5 minutes of my life that I can't get back! What in blazes is she trying to say? Anyone have a translation guide for Palinism?
102.
Aug 5, 2009 3:24am

Back in 2008 people began to realize that Palin is a poet. Her words are not to be understood, they are to be experienced. Do not try to figure out what she is trying to say, simply bask in the glory of the moment. And try not to worry about how you can never get those moments back - it will ruin the whole thing... http://www.slate.com/id/2201342/pagenum/all/#p2

Check out our gal pal's latest Twitter Treats - "The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's "death panel" so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their "level of productivity in society," whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil." If such a system actually existed it would be evil, but it doesn't. Only in that beautiful mind of hers. Way to take the high road Sarah!
104.
Aug 10, 2009 2:32am

Sarah's "death panel" remark is perhaps the single most irresponsible and reprehensible lie told in the American political sphere in recent years. And using her Down Syndrome baby as political fodder to help spread the lie?! Is nothing sacred to her? Despite having repeatedly accused “the media” of attacking her children, Sarah has once again used them to attack someone else, and she has done so, as on other occasions, by using them to support false claims. Using her own children as pawns and props to advance her political agenda - she makes me sick!
