Congress Probes Global Warming Emails

U.S. congress has begun investigating climate scientists whose emails and documents were hacked into to see if their global warming theories have misrepresented the truth behind the cause of climate change.

Investigators have begun "studying" the 1,079 e-mails and over 3,800 documents that hackers stole last week from the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at East Anglia University in the U.K, Rep. Darrel Issa from California told the Wall Street Journal.

Some of the leaked e-mails and files - which were posted on sites like Wikileaks.org and EastAngliaEmails.com - show growing tensions between scientists and skeptics. Others are mundane announcements of upcoming conferences or research trips.

According to his website, Rep. James Inhofe from Oklahoma said on Monday the leaked correspondence suggested researchers "cooked the science to make this thing look as if the science was settled, when all the time of course we knew it was not."

The White House Science Adviser John Holdren has also come under investigation, after one of his emails written in 2003 to Michael Mann of Pennsylvania State University, was hacked.

"I'm happy to stand by my contribution to this exchange. I think anybody who reads what I wrote in its entirety will find it a serious and balanced treatment of the question of 'burden of proof' in situations where science germane to public policy is in dispute," Holdren said.

Meanwhile, The University of East Anglia said it will cooperate with police and proceed with its own internal investigation. The University posted a statement calling the disclosure "mischievous" and saying it is aiding the police in an investigation.

The statement also quotes Jones, CRU's director, explaining his November 1999 e-mail, which said: "I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (i.e. from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline."

Jones said that the word trick was used "colloquially as in a clever thing to do" and that it "is ludicrous to suggest that it refers to anything untoward."

The leaked data comes just two weeks before the U.N. climate conference in Copenhagen will begin on Dec. 7 -18, when 192 nations will meet to discuss a solution on how to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping greenhouse gases worldwide.

Global warming has never been about science. It has always been about corruption, global control. and money. Gore should shout from the highest mountain that he is disgusted by those who have hidden the truth from the world... but he can not because he is one himself. Global warming is and has always been a hoax,,,, HOAX!!!!!!!!! And if we allow such media as New York Times to coninue the lies then we and our children deserve the loss of freedoms and personal wealth loss.

Global warming is a concern that should be taken with respect. A "HOAX' it is not. But thanks to these two-bit moron scientists, they became as indistinguishable as those who are in the hard right who would try to use any means to disclaim that global warming is a hoax. I do believe in global warming, but if I run into a source that over pasionatley press the issue in one direction or another, common sence would dictate me to question that source undiscriminately. And if you are one that believes one side or in the other while wearing blinders to other counter or contributing facts, well then God help us all. I am all for Green Technologies and alternative fuels, but also to continue and always improve and innovate on the current technolies that would use fossil fuels until the Green Technoligies and alternative fuels are readily available and become more common place.

Global warming is not really a hoax. The climate has been getting warmer over time. Evidence of this is the pine beetle infestation of the western US, the fact that mosquitoes and fleas are moving increasingly higher in elevation due to more suitable climates, and the ice melt taking place at both poles. Anyone that denies that the climate has been warming in recent years is lying to themselves. That being said, the real problem is proving that any of this has to do with man. There's a whole host of other causes involved. One volcanic eruption dwarfs any contribution we may have made to carbon/toxic emissions. It could all be cyclical. We just don't know. It's a shame that some of these guys were more intent on proving themselves right than finding the truth. It makes the rest of the community look bad when they have valuable data to contribute.

Global warming is a fact. It was not that long ago (geologically speaking) that glaciers reach well down into the central portion of north America. However, the glaciers started receding well before the industrial revolution. The geologic record indicates that this is a natural cycle, and not anthropogenic. The science used to push man made climate change is more of a religion and not true science. It reminds me of the junk science concerning the adverse effects of silicon breast implants, that turned out to be nothing but lawyers paying for "science" so that they could rape Dowell chemical. The science of man made global warming is like a religion, in that there is no true discourse allowed by the politically correct, leftist leaning elitist that are trying to reign in capitalism. This is demonstrated by an article a few months ago published in Scientific American. I forget who the author is, but he was explaining how defective sensors and innocent mistakes were to blame for several cases of inaccurate data that was published in support of anthropogenic climate change. The only problem with the author's argument is that if the mistakes were truly random, the there should have been as many mistakes made that showed global cooling as there were showing global warming. Instead all of the errors that were mentioned in the article slanted the data toward the politically correct solution. The only reasonable conclusion is that leftist, such as Al Gore, are profiting personally from the fear generated by the prospect of climate change. Science and mathematics are truly apolitical, it is only when personal gain, agendas and egos become involved that pure science is sacrificed to the idol of political correctness.
