Sony Computer Entertainment announced Wednesday that it plans to roll out its new motion controller for the PlayStation 3 this fall.

The decision was made to help ensure an exciting and varied line-up, Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc said in a statement.

The video game unit of Sony Corp. said the release will include Japan, North America, Europe and other Asian markets.

Sony's Motion Controller features wand-like controllers that communicate with a PlayStation Eye camera.

We will continue to work to have a comprehensive portfolio of attractive and innovative games for the Motion Controller, not only from SCE Worldwide Studios but also from the third party developers and publishers, whom we have been working closely with, Hirai added.

The company did not confirm the price for the new controls, which were first demonstrated at the E3 video game convention last year.

The move puts Motion Controller in a similar window as Microsoft's Project Natal, which Microsoft said will be launched this holiday season. Project Natal uses a 3-D camera and voice recognition to allow players to control games using just their body and voice.
