Finnish handset maker, Nokia, has launched two new phones, both of which are highly affordable. These are the Nokia 101 which comes at a cost of $36 (EUR25) and Nokia 100 that costs $28 (EUR20).

Mary McDowell, executive vice-president of Nokia Mobile Phones, said: “We recognize that for many of the next billion people, a phone purchase is an investment.” She added that these launches further underline the commitment of the company to connect with new consumers.

Nokia 101 is planned to be introduced in Q3 of 2011. The important features include:

• Dual SIM possibility
• Extremely affordable
• 65K 1.8” color screen
• Grid-based menu with easily readable icons
• Supporting FM radio and MP3 player
• Memory card up to 16 GB capacity
• Possibility to have 500 entries in the phone book

In addition, it features an incorporated flashlight, 3.5 mm AV connector, pre-loaded games and also a time tracker. It will have a talk time of 8.5 hours.

It will be available in phantom black and coral red colors. It weighs only 69.6 g including battery.

Nokia 100 is planned to be introduced in Q4 of 2011. The important features include:

• 65K 1.8” color screen
• Grid-based menu with easily readable icons
• Supporting FM radio
• Possibility to have 500 entries in the phone book
• Memory card up to 16 GB capacity
• Extremely affordable

Unlike 101 it does not offer MP3 support. It will have a talk time of 7.2 hours.

In addition, like the 101, it offers an incorporated flashlight, 3.5 mm AV connector, pre-loaded games and also the time tracker. It weighs the same as the 101 model.

It will be available in more color options of blue, pink, red and black.

Finnish stock market has reacted positively to the news with an increase in the stock price of Nokia by 1 percent.
It is hoped that the consumers will also react in a similar positive manner to the two new models.
