The body of deposed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi was displayed at a house in Misrata Thursday after he was captured and killed in his hometown of Sirte.

The corpse of one of Gadhafi's sons, Mo'tassim, was also laid out in a private house in Misrata.

Gadhafi was reportedly hiding like a “rat” in a drain tunnel when he was dragged out and killed by Libyan fighters he once scorned as rats. He was cornered, beaten and then shot in the head as Libya's new leaders declared they had overrun the last bastion of his long rule.

Mo'tassim, Gadhafi’s fifth son, died of a wound to the head. He also suffered a break in the skull and five bullets in the back and one in the neck, said acting Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril, citing a forensic report.

As the killing of Gadhafi, who ruled Libya for more than four decades, sparked wild celebrations among the Libyan people with hopes that eight months of war may finally be over, local people in Misrata jostled around the bodies to take pictures on their cell phones, Reuters reports.

The deceased leader is survived by his wife, daughter Ayesha and four of his sons – Muhammad, Saif al-Islam, Al-Saadi and Hannibal. Two other sons, Saif al-Arab and Khamis, were killed in April and August this year.
